Hey girl! Welcome to episode 162 of the show. Today we are digging into how to make your titles super juicy, and how to make your podcast titles, email titles, and log titles, clickable and exciting and just really freaking good! Are you excited about this?

I am so pumped! I think one of the most under-focused on things, that makes one of the biggest impacts, is having clickable titles, and that will convert. With my strategy, you can follow this for every single title that you ever come up within your life. I bet you're going to see an increase in your clicks, your listen rates, and your log readers. Are you pumped? Let's do it!

Before we dig into how to create amazing titles, I first want to remind you that my Pinterest Masterclass has been made available for a short time and why am making this available to all of you is because, Hello! We are all hanging out in isolation Quarantine right now. What better time to set up an optimized Pinterest so that we can drive more organically and traffic? Like you guys, 2/3 of the people on Pinterest are women with mid to high-level incomes. Pinterest drives traffic forever, FOREVER. Pinterest is the place to be, but I think so many people just don't know how. What's important with Pinterest? How do I not waste hours on Pinterest? I have a simple step-by-step training that shows you everything you need without fancy fluff and stuff. What if I told you it took me less than 45 minutes a week and I drive 78% of my website traffic to Pinterest? That's Right! Meet the holy grail of marketing. And for a limited time, I've given you limited access to my Pinterest Masterclass that I created for my Mastermind girls, but because of the times we're in, and the economy, I wanted to gift this to you. I set it up with an early bird price, or a limited-time price, of only $97, but for you, right now, this month only, for $77 only, 20 more dollars off. You get the full 96 minute Pinterest training and bonuses. You get a full tutorial on how to create your pins. You're going to learn why Pinterest, Pinterest set-up, profile and keyword strategy, board set-up, group board optimization, access, and automatic pinning using Tailwind and more. What this is NOT going to give you is everything you don't need. There is zero fluff. Pinterest and you want something super simple that you can go to, send it, and forget it. On this course, Pinterestmasterclass.com, your code at checkout, bottom left-hand corner, is LOLA. I can't wait to see what you think!

Let's go ahead and start talking about struggling with titles. Raise your hand if you are saying, "Stef, I sit here with the best content, everything mapped out, I'm following your ISCT for content, and then I stare at that title!" It's crazy but let me make you feel so much better about titles. There are only three things we want to think about when we come up with a title for an episode.

Number One - Can this title become juicy or controversial?

Number Two - Can this title be keyword or SEO driven? This a tactical training episode where I can use keywords to get found.

Number Three - Can this title become a question or a trigger for my listener?

All of my podcast and email titles and blog titles fall into those three categories. So let's go over to my Podcasts and look at my most listened to and clicked on titles. Here we go: "The truth about MLM, network marketing and what passive marketing really means". The truth about network marketing, which by the way, is episode 88; that one is juicy or controversial and makes you want to click"How to start coaching and profit immediately in your business". Episode 129, that one is SEO or keyword-driven. If somebody is googling "how to start coaching, "my episode 129 is coming up. And it also says, "And how to profit immediately in your business." That piece is a trigger because everyone's wondering, "How do I start profiting in this thing?" That's the most downloaded ever!

"Six millionaire success habits you need to implement now." Episode 122, I think that's a blend of being juicy and controversial.
And then the third one is a trigger, too. If you can make your avatar say, "OOo, I want that!" you know you've got a winner. Then if you can use great keywords like 'millionaire success habits,' it's a winner; this title has all three elements and makes it a stellar title.

Next one: Episode 127: "Is it time to break up with Instagram?" Number Three, It's a question and a trigger. Is it time to break up with Instagram? You gotta click this episode!  You say Everyone is telling me, I gotta use Instagram! Stefanie's being very controversial and saying, 'Is it time to break up with Instagram?'" It's a very juicy and triggering question that I used as a title!

The next one is a coaching episode—live coaching: "Creating an avatar plus four tiers of brand creation plus more." OK, so this one: "Creating an Avatar." I think that's really why I'm constantly talking about, "Who is my Lola? What's her name?" So you are clicking on that one because I say 'creating an avatar.'  This one is probably keyword-driven for all of you.

The next one: "Discover your God-lead calling and niche in six steps." This to me is a blend of two criteria. It's SEO and keyword-driven because, as I said people are searching for that trigger in there. I made it even better and I layered it. How do you discover, in just six steps, and it makes you say, "I need that. I want those six steps  please."So what can you see from these titles I just shared with you? I don't just pick one of my three criteria for a title; I'm layering it! If you can make a title juicy and controversial, and a question or a trigger, and SEO and keyword driven, you have a winner-winner-chicken-dinner! It's gonna get clicked.

How do we do this for you? You have to make it about your listener, your reader, and if you don't know, please go listen to episode 128 when I teach you about creating an avatar. Seriously, if you guys don't understand who's listening to you, then we can't make titles that our human wants to click. You have to know who you are talking to. I want you to picture her face. For most of us, our avatar is a woman. I want you to understand:
  • Is she working?
  • Is she a mom?
  • Is she home?
  •  Is she fancy?
  • Is she weird?
  • Does she wear her PJs all day?
  • Who is she, and what is she passionate about?
  • What are the things keeping her up at night?

If my woman is Lola, and she's trying to grow a soap business online and she's struggling with all of that. She feels stuck in her business. She's frustrated with Instagram, she doesn't know how to make money in her business,  she wants to start profiting immediately. Maybe she's dabbling in network marketing or too many things and nothing is coming together in one cohesive brand. All five of those episodes, I just read to you are relevant to Lola. She needs them. She's struggling, and when I trigger her, I gift some answers right there in the title. She's going to click, and when I grab her attention, in the first 60 seconds of that episode, she'll be with me through to the end.

If you have not gotten clear on who your avatar is, go to episode 160. Stop the madness. Get out a sheet of paper right now. What is she doing? What is she listening to? What are her triggers? What are the keywords that she's searching for? Get inside her brain, get inside her heart and then you go create those podcast episodes that solve her problems. Ask yourself, "How do I make her feel better? How do I make her get clarity? How do I make her understand how to get from point A to point B? How do I serve her?" And then you title it with juicy, controversy, SEO or QR driven questions or triggers and blend, layer them. An example of Layering, let's go to the title that I read to you "Six Millionaire Success Habits You Need to Implement NOW". It's the word, "Success" Have a title you need now like that, it's juicy. Then I use keywords in it like millionaire, success, habits, Those are searchable things. Those are the terms that I know someone out there is googling. The next one that I layered was a trigger. So it's not a question, it's a trigger because I said you need to implement it, and I would've had the first two of my three title criteria, but now I can make it even better by saying you need to implement it NOW. I made it about Lola. I talked directly to her/you. You need it now, so if you can layer, you're going to have more success with titles.

Let's look at another one that's been layered. Episode 127 "Is it time to break up with Instagram?" It's controversial, very controversial. Does it have any SEO or keywords? The word 'Instagram' is in and of itself searchable. I wouldn't necessarily say I used my Number Two in this title. And then, Number Three, it is a question and a trigger. "Is it time to break up with Instagram?" Doesn't that make you all wonder what's in that episode? If you haven't listened to any of my episodes except for this one, go straight to 127 because I need to enlighten you on where you're spending your time. And I'll teach you today where we are NOT hanging out! Instagram! Where we are hanging out is Pinterest, (which is episode 160.) I'm going to blow your mind; It will teach you to stop wasting time on platforms that aren't returning anything. That is a soapbox, let me tell you! It makes me passionate when I read that title. So you want to FEEL something, please swoop into my inbox on Instagram, shoot me a voice DM, tell me if this makes sense.

I want you to give me some title ideas on Instagram DM. Let me see what you're coming up with and I will, I WILL, review them for you. Give me three titles. I'll audit them for you and get them back to you.

Now, let's go to a couple of examples that are in my podcast just because I think it's always great to have a visual of what this might look like. Let's say, that you run a parenting brand and you have this podcast where you're talking about how to simplify parenting, as in, parenting made simple. And your current title is "Parenting made simple." How does that make you feel? I feel pretty vanilla when I read this. So how can we make this juicy/controversial, a question or a trigger or all of the above? Maybe something like "Struggling with parenting? Click here for five secrets to simple parenting." 'Who's struggling with parenting' is your question. 'Click here' is your trigger. 'Simple parent,' 'simple pair parenting,' simple parenting. Those are searchable. We have just made that title 100% better.

Let's do this one. Maybe you run a podcast and you have an episode about organization as a mom and maybe inside you've got three systems that you use to become more organized and your current title is 'organization tips for moms.' ( have an episode named that! It's OK. This is about today going forward.) Something I just told my Mastermind girls: "Whatever we've done in the past, let it go." I am not going backwards and fixing all my jankee stuff. Let me raise my hand and tell you I have horrible title stuff. I have links that don't work. I have funnels that I don't know where they go. Like, things are messy and you know what? It's cool! Because it's me starting right here today. Whereas, I'm going to make strides tomorrow. Whereas I learn, as I grow, as I get more enlightenment, I can do things better tomorrow going forward. So give yourself some grace. Don't hate me if your title is called 'organization tips for moms.' It's OK. How can we make this better? 'Organization tips for moms''—kind of could be keyword driven, like organization tips, but that's gonna get lost in a sea of "organization" of podcasts, and blogs. So let's think about how we can make this juicier? Maybe we can do something like "Organization, a Hot Mess? Step-by-step Organization Hacks for Busy Moms." Well, now we layered this title because we have a question at the beginning "Organization, a hot mess?' That's also a trigger."The organization, A Hot Mess? Step-by-step Organization Hacks for Busy Moms." In that second one, we are now searchable. 'Organization' has the word 'hacks'. 'Hacks' is going to do better than 'tips.' It's going to do better than 'busy moms' instead of just 'moms.' That's another tier for her triggering because we're all busy. We want simple, we want step by step so this title is going to perform much better.

Alright, let's do one more visualization. This one, let's see. You run a podcast or blog about sales for entrepreneurs. So you help people sell more, convert more and your podcast episode is titled 'Sales Growth for Entrepreneurs.' Not horrible! That would be OK, definitely not juicy but it is keyword driven. 'Sales growth for entrepreneurs' is something someone might be searching for. But how can we layer it? How can we add another level of clickability?

What if we took this to the next level? What if we WOWed them with this title, something like, 'Increase Sales by 30% in 30 days: Sales Growth Strategy for Entrepreneurs." OOH! Do you feel the difference? "Sales strategy to increase sales by 30% in 30 days: Sales growth strategy for entrepreneurs." Holy smokes! I think we may have touched all three. We've got juicy and controversial because we're saying, 'increase sales by 30% in 30 days' and that could also be triggering. We've also plugged in your keywords by saying "Sales Growth Strategy. This is definitely searchable; Highly searchable. And we could make this even better by saying, "Increase sales by 30% in 30 days?" Make that a question mark! BOOM! Increase sales by 30% in 30 days? That title has all three of our title criteria and it's highly layered. That's going to get a click, click, click, click, click all the day. So, ladies, what do we do as we walk away from this episode? We forgive ourselves for our cotton candy titling in the past and we really dig into these three title criteria, title criteria that I use going forward and we try to layer them as best we can.

Here are the three criteria that you need to pick from when you were creating juicy incredible titles for your avatar. And actually, the number one thing you need to do is get clear. I don't know who she is, what she needs, what is she searching for, one of her hot buttons triggers, and search terms. Guys, that is not hard! What is she Googling? Put yourself in her shoes and just get in her brain for an hour and brainstorm.

Next step, looking at episode creation. I know what it's about. I create the episode first, then I dig into, what is this episode about? What does this episode really do? What's the ultimate promise of this episode? Hold that up, even if it's cotton candy, like the example, 'organization for moms.' How do I make it better? Go through these three steps:

Step 1: Let's make it more juicy and controversial.
Step 2: See if you can infuse some search keywords that she might be looking for from your big list. Such as 'organization hacks for busy moms' Done.
Step 3: Make it a question or a trigger for her.

So we end up with: "Organization, A Hot Mess? Step-by-step Organization Hacks for Busy Moms." Make sure that it makes you raise your hand and say, "Yes please." Make sure that it makes you question, "Oh, that's me, I need that!" SNAP! Is she talking about that today, and go back and think about what were my five most downloaded episodes? What do they have in common? They layered these three criteria. They at least had two of these criteria in every single title if not three.

I hope this helps you create incredible titles. I have one more bonus tip for you. Whether you're doing podcast titles or, blog titles, use my strategy. However, if you're doing an email title, one thing I have learned is that my conversion, my click conversion, goes at least 20% higher when I use an emoji. That's your bonus tip for titling today. ONLY in email titles. If you don't have any mail system, you can get started for free with Mail Chimp. You are totally fine. I've used Mail Chimp for years. It was great! I now use Get Response Every Program. I currently use it to run my business. You can check every resource I use to run my business at StefanieGass.com/resources. I remember finding resources was the number one thing that held me back. Which email platform should I use? Where should I build my website? What do I use for my check-out so everything is updated? There is a current list of what I used to run my business: StefanieGass.com/resources. I think that will help you.

So dig into this, and start creating juicy, amazing titles.
