So you wanna create printables, huh? I gotcha covered! I have found Canva to be the fastest, easiest design software to navigate. Especially for the novice like me!
Okay, lets get started!
First thing you need to do is create a Canva account. For printables, I have found that I have to be using a laptop or desktop. Not all the same functionality is available through the mobile version.
Once you are logged in, you'll see a green button that says, 'Create a Design'. Click there. Then scroll down to 'Documents'. Choose US Letter.
You'll see that you have a nice, blank canvas to work on. If you want to start with a pre-existing layout, simply click 'Layouts' from the left menu bar. You can edit any of those, change the backrounds, fonts, etc. In this tutorial, I was creating a 'Christmas List & Event Tracker' Printable, so I chose to keep the blank canvas and start from scratch.
Next, was to add my header and graphics. Under 'Search' I entered Christmas. You can enter anything your little heart desires and chose from THOUSANDS of nifty clip-arts.
After adding the clip art I wanted, I went to 'Text' on the left menu and chose a header. You can also add your own font by clicking on 'Add Heading', 'Add Subheading', etc. After adding my header I changed the wording and colors.
You'll find your options on the top menu bar right above your document.
Heading complete! Easy-peasy!
Next, it was time to add lines to the body of my printable. You'll find this under 'Elements' from the left menu and then the category 'Lines' (imagine that!).
I simply added the line, changed the color to black, lengthened it to full-page and then copy/pasted over and over to fill my document.
I went back to 'Text' and added plain text for 'Name', 'Gift', and 'Complete'. I also copy/pasted those to save time.
You'll also notice our little gingerbread friends at the bottom of my page. Those guys were added around this time from the 'Search bar', 'Christmas' category. Shortened to size, and copied.
One of my FAVORITE elements of Canva, is the centering tool. When you move something, there will automatically be a pink line that will pop up to guide you and help you center things without any guess-work. Its magic- and super helpful.
Okay, page one done!
Next, I needed to copy my page for those folks that have LOTS to buy. You just click on 'Copy This Page' as many times as needed (see below).
Onto part-two of my printable. The Event Tracker. Now this was SUPER easy because I simply copied my gift tracker page, deleted lines, and updated the headings.
Done! This whole printable took maybe 30 minutes to put together.
To download it, you'll want to make sure it is in PDF format (for sharing). You can do this at the top by clicking on 'Download', choosing 'PDF' format and then 'All Pages'. If you are a blogger, add your website as well.
