Dealing with Skeptics + Mapping & Publishing Online Courses + Combining Two Brands in One Podcast
I am SO excited to talk to you guys today because y’all brought the FIRE with the #StumpStef questions! #StumpStef questions are submitted by you, my awesome community of Lolas! We are going to talk about what we should do when somebody is already doing something in the online space that you want to occupy. How do you handle that? Should you still move forward? How do you handle when people, even loved ones, are skeptical of online business? How do you manage two brands and merge them into one so that you’re not doing double the work? How do you prep for courses? How do you get a course done in a short period of time while streamlining the online course creation process? These are such. good. questions! Before we dig into this goldmine here, I want to remind you ladies that I offer clarity coaching! I help women get SO clear on what they are being called to do and discover what the next steps are. I help women map out specific order of operations in your online business so that you can actually become profitable and create online, passive income through products, launching a coaching business, or starting a podcast! I can help you with ALL THE THINGS! Let’s find clarity on what your course should be about, what are the modules going to be, what’s your podcast going to be titled, what kind of content should you create? Seriously, girlfriend, tap into my brain for an hour because I know you are going to have the clarity, excitement, the drive, and the vision to go do the things! If you want to grab a session with me, LET’S GO! There’s never been a better time to do this so email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will get it set up!
When you hear of people doing something similar to what you want to do in the online space, how do you know if you should be taking that same path?
It really helps to remember that everybody has a different type of skillset and we all do things in a unique way. If you take me, for example, there are a TON of podcast courses out there and there are some really successful ones too! I initially was worried about jumping into this space because of the big names out there already doing what I wanted to do! Then I thought, you know what, there’s no one doing it like me and to my own niche. There’s a demand for my girls to be taught and coached by me because of the trust that has already been built up. There are also ways that I would teach this subject that is SO different than the podcast coaches that are already out there. I am very interested in teaching authenticity, finding organic growth and finding the long-term game rather than using residual marketing like Pinterest, so I am different. For you, you need to understand that is okay to do something that someone else is already doing, but do it in your own way! That gives you a unique flair that no one else can copy and your audience will buy things from people they like, know, and trust which means they are going to buy from YOU. If they are listening specifically to you, they are going to want to buy from you regardless of what other people out there are doing. This is why it’s critical to really focus on your online brand. The other component of this question is that you just can’t worry about what other people have done! You have to put your head down and don’t even look at what other people are doing! When you decided to do something, just go for it! Dig in and do it your own way! I don’t do market research when I want to do something new… I do it from my heart, I ask my community, but I don’t go look and see what other people have created that’s similar because I don’t want to be influenced by them! This might help you to feel even more unique when you dig into your space.
How do you handle people close to you who are skeptical and unsure about running a business online?
Honestly, we just gotta love them where they’re at! Just say, “Hey, I’m doing this new thing and I know you don’t really understand it yet, but I’m just going to do this! I would absolutely love to have your support/trust/love/cheer for me even though you don’t really understand it. It’s important to me.”. Having lots of clear communication and having an open dialogue with them shows that you appreciate their concern, but you’re going to do it anyway and their support would mean the world to you. That’s how I have handled this and the beauty of it all is that I have been able to come back and see them positively respond and be excited for my success!
How do I manage two brands with similar audiences?
This is such a great question! When you have platforms that feel the same with a podcast, social media page or coaching services, you can merge them all and take that singular voice and feed it into a podcast in a couple of different ways. One way is to call you brand one cohesive name like Sisters of Christ Podcast. For example, you can tie in all other elements like non-profit work, website, coaching into the podcast and use that as your marketing! At the end of your show, you can say “This podcast is brought to you by Sisters of Christ, a non-profit organization focused on strengthening women’s walk with Christ. We offer ______. To find out more about this organization and how you can contribute, please go to (whatever your website is)”. This is almost like a sponsored podcast or podcast that is being gifted to the community through your non-profit. Then when you are on the show, I want you to think about the women you would like your coaching, need your guidance, OR would be interested in the Sister in Christ brand. What does that woman need/want/desire to know? How can you teach/pour into/ inspire her? You can definitely use messaging and teaching that you would use throughout your brand. You can do Live coaching on the air. You can talk about what is the God-led calling? How do you tap into it? How do you find the time to pursue a calling when it doesn’t make you money yet? You can kindly remind them that you offer coaching and run your non-profit. You are doing two separate things and you need to communicate that to your audience. You can absolutely drive traffic to both places using ONE show because it is the same women behind it all.
What is all the prep work that goes into creating courses?
I am really excited to help clarify my course creation process. Basically, what I do is map out what my course is going to be like. I used to just throw everything onto a sheet of paper or an Excel Sheet, but I have since discovered MindMeister (Shout out to ChelsiJo.co for sharing this with me!). If you are creating courses, I highly recommend using the free version of MindMeister to map out your course so that you have the layout done. Utilizing MindMeister would be my step one as part of pre-prep. The second step would be creating all of the PowerPoint slides for the modules inside of my course, which is also prep work. For example, in my course for Podcast Pro University, there are 13 modules which means I have 13 different PowerPoint slide decks that I needed to prepare! Yes, I know… it’s a lot! There is probably a week to two weeks of prep work before you can go and knock out the actual course creation. At that point, I feel really good about where I’m at and that I probably need about 12 straight hours to record and upload all of these modules with no interruptions and a quiet space to work. Then I turn to my husband and say, “Yo! Husband! I’m at the point where I am creating the course and I need a good two days of peace, honey boo.”. Then, I hunker down at my mom’s house and bring my laptop and all the things and ready to do this! Ladies definitely get going on this prep work because if you’re like me and you have 13 modules and each module was roughly 30 minutes. After I would complete a module, I would upload it into Teachable. I would go module by module, recording, organizing and uploading with a quick breather in between. In the two days that I’m doing these modules, its creation time! Go Time! Otherwise, it would take me a month to find an hour here or there to record, along with recording my podcast! Once those two days are done and I have the core stuff uploaded into Teachable, all the recordings done, I have maybe about a week of plugging into other things into my course. This would look like “advanced trainings” into my podcast or a checklist or download. I am basically going in and fine tuning each module inside the course within Teachable. THEN, it’s time to plan out the launch with is a totally different ball game!
