How was your weekend?! We got snowed in yesterday and it was sooo nice. After a crazy week helping with my soul sister's birth, catching up on clients, and getting my house back in order I was so ready for some down time (ambivert alert). Hey that rhymes! #nerd
We watched movies, snuggled my littles, meal prepped, and I loved every second of it.
Are you a homebody too, or do you prefer to go go go?
Today, got back in the groove. Always love me some Mondays! Hit up Zumba and met with a client which is always SO FULFILLING.
Now as I sit here and type I decided to be honest with you...
I almost DIDN'T publish today's episode.
A few weeks ago, I was sitting in church and I heard this message about words shaping our reality. It was backed up by scripture after scripture after scripture. Until that point, I had heard coaches, personal development books, and podcasts talking about this - but I had never equated it scripture. It was so moving for me that I drafted this episode that day, and recorded it soon after.
Theeeen, I sat on it. I sat on it for a week. I was afraid.
Am I getting toooo religious?
Should I bring scripture into this podcast?
What will people think?
Will I repel people?
I went back and forth.
Then stopped and asked myself, WOULD GOD WANT ME TO PUBLISH THIS EPISODE?
The answer was a clear yes.
So here I am in hopes that the right audience hears this message and resonate with my truth, because let's face it - God's truth IS my truth.
What do you think?
Do you think that what you say actually matters?
Do you think what you say can shape your reality and even, your destiny?
I'll be answering the big question once and for all... does what we say actually matter?
Together, let's dig into what scripture says about our words. How powerful they are, and how they can actually shape our reality.
I hope you enjoy.
Love and light,

Alrighty, so let's get to today's show. This episode is totally inspired by practically Christian, Brandon Woodward's latest sermon from copper point church. I've linked the sermon below for you in the show notes. So you can go and check it out, hear it from the man himself. He did just the most phenomenal job of pouring into us. And I was so inspired. I knew I had to share his message with all of you. I didn't come up with this myself. Brandon gets all the credit here and I'm all about giving credit where credit is due, but I hope that my message can inspire you and help to transform your words just as the Bible instructs us to do. So let me ask you a few questions. Do you think that words can really hurt you? Do you remember when you were a kid and you would say sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me.
Y'all remember that. I'm sure you didn't sing it like that, but hashtag claim your, we are heard. Let's think about this. If words can't really hurt us, why does the Bible pours into us and gives us direction on, on the fact that words are actually shaping our lives? And what does the Bible actually say about words? I'm going to talk to you about that today. Now Brandon gave us some stats that I have to share with you. Cause I thought that these were hilarious and it proves that words are such a massive deal. In our daily lives. We actually spend one fifth of our life talking. Can you believe that? I can totally believe that y'all I am talking to myself. When I wake up in my brain, I talk to myself in the shower. I talked to other people, my kids, my husband, I talked to you.
I like never stopped talking. How about you? Is that just me? Another hilarious staff that Brandon brought up is that 7,000 words a day is typically what men say. Okay. 7,000. That seems like a lot, right? Well, in contrast, guess how many words we say on average as women, go ahead. Guess throw it out there. Average of 20,000 words a day and we wonder why our husbands ignore us half the time. They're like girlfriend, I hit 7,000 words by 11:00 AM. Like you still talk right now. Holy smokes. If we were to collaborate all of the words that we speak and bundle them up into a book, we'd have a 350 page book in a week. That is a novel. And what would our novel say? I want you to first and foremost, think about that. What do you say all day? Every day? What are you saying to your kids?
What are you saying to your friends, your coworkers, and most importantly, what are you saying to yourself, girlfriend? Because the words that come out of your mouth are creating the stories of your life. Every week, you're crafting this 350 page novel. Ask yourself what your book is saying at the end of your lifetime. When you look at the novels lining walls of your office, of your home, of your life, life story, and you pick a book out of that wall and you open a book to any given page, what will you find? Are you going to find hateful gossip? Are you going to find self-destructive verbiage things that you say to break yourself down? Are you going to find hateful words towards your children or mean words towards your coworkers? What's going to be in that book or, or are you going to find positive, inspiring words of wisdom pouring into other people?
The wisdom and the gifts that you have. Are you going to find positivity that lights up the room when you read the page? Think about that because no matter what type of books you have been writing until now you hold the pen to creating the narrative of your life. By the words that you speak, how powerful is that visual? I was blown away. That visual to me will stick with me forever as I craft the words and the thoughts that create the words, because I know that I'm writing the book to my life right now, here and now every day on show what I say to my kids, my husband, myself. Okay. I want you to realize that you have an incredible, incredible challenge to be a best-selling author of your own life. Here's what James three two says. We all stumble in many ways.
Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check. When I look at this verse, what this tells me is that perfection is unattainable, which I always say, am I right? Perfection? Isn't reality. But progress is, and what James is saying, as you all stumble, we all will say something. That's not going to be happy. Nice, perfect, uplifting all the time. What you can do is identify those words and then change it. Stop seeing the things that are creating your reality are they're so powerful. Ladies, the tongue has the power to directly to your life. So when you're standing where you are right now, and you have the opportunity to craft the next sentence that comes out of your mouth, I want you to think I can go in direction a and it's to the left.
And when, when I say something negative, I'm going to start laying the bricks down this path to my left, these bricks are going to take me down a dark dingy, icky, scary alley. I don't know what I will find in that alley. I may find hateful people. Someone might mug me. I might be robbed or worse, but I'm going to take myself there anyway, because I am the bricks down this horribly dark path, or you have the opportunity to craft a sentence that's positive and full of love instead of fear, that is path B and it's to the right. When you choose path B and you choose words out of love, you are now laying the bricks down the road to leaven light. You're choosing God's way. And what are you going to find down that road? You're going to find love positivity. Self-worth empowerment, the right friends, the right mentorships, job opportunities, success, abundance, peace, and balance.
You're going to find your truth. Sister, if you don't like the direction of your life right now today, I want you to check which way your tongue is directing you. What path are your words choosing for you? And actually what path are you choosing by the words that you allow to come out of your mouth, who has control of your mouth? God or the enemy. Let me ask you that again. Who has control of your mouth? God or the enemy? Every day I tell the Lord you have my heart. I am your vessel. Use me for your message. I want my words to come from the Lord, not the enemy. And I am not perfect. Y'all believe I have had many times in my life when my words have come from the enemy, but no more. I can recognize what comes out of my mouth.
And I have the power to change that reality. I choose path B. How about you? What do you choose? Proverbs? 1821 says the tongue has the power of life and death. And those who love it will eat its fruit. The tongue has the power of life and death. Like the Bible is telling us that one simple phrase can shape the destiny of our lives and not just our own lives, but the people around us, our kids, our spouses, our loved ones, our friends, the people we interact with. I want you to think back for a minute. Was there a time in your life that somebody said something hurtful to you and you are still carrying it with you right now? Y'all when I was in fifth grade, a little boy told me that I had Harry Mann legs and believe I did. I had Harry Mann legs.
I had a mustache. I'm a little hairy Bulgarian child. However, it was so hurtful to me back as a child. And it stuck with me through many of my adolescent years in eighth grade, a boy told me that I had too much cellulite wear shorts, that subconscious belief embedded itself in my soul. And until the age of 31 years old, I never wore a pair of shorts. That is ridiculous words, have power words, have power. How about a time that someone told you something incredible or they lifted you up or they filled you with empowerment? The other day, one of my most incredible clients, Heidi witting reached out to me and she just sent me the longest, most heartfelt love inspired message of confirmation that what I was doing and what I was saying was changing her life in a massive way. I sat there reading that message with tears streaming down my eyes because y'all, we need to hear that we're doing the right things.
We need to be empowered. We need encouragement as human beings. When was the last time that you looked your children in the eyes and said, I am so proud of you. When is the last time you looked at your spouse and said, you are a man of God. And I am proud of you. When is the last time you called up a friend and said, Hey sister, I haven't heard from you, but I just want to remind you that you're a great mama. And I am here for you. If you need something. So often we focus on all the negative things being said to us in the media, by our spouses, by our kids, whatever. But I implore you. Are you changing that? Are you being the light? Are you stopping the vicious cycle of negativity that flows all throughout this world? Because that my friend comes from the enemy and you are not a vessel for the enemy, but you are a vessel for God.
Choose your words with love and light because you, my beautiful, beautiful friend are a world changer. For those of you struggling with this, I want you to speak faith and speak love. Even when you don't believe it, continue to speak, love and light, don't get caught up. Don't get caught up in gossip and a negativity. If the news and the media make you sad and make you depressed and make you speak negativity, stop putting it in your mind. If you have friends that just gossip about other people, stop hanging out with those people. If you're reading books or you're surfing the internet, and you're finding yourself, speaking dark words and going down that dark and dingy path, you are laying the bricks to your destiny. Stop right there and choose to shift your mindset to something positive and healthy and ask the Lord to put the right people into your life so that you can be his vessel and that his words can flow out of you continue to speak faith and trust that God's words will fill who you are.
I'm going to remind you, the tongue has the power to destroy, but it also has the power to lift and to create life and beauty and love in. I don't want you to just think about how you speak to others, your kids gossip, all of that. Yes, it's negative. And yes, you need to change that. I would bet you that you speak to yourself in a more negative way than you speak to others. And what the Hey like you are your more, most glorious gift. You are the most important thing in your life without you. There is no you, when you don't love you, how can you love others? How can you be successful and abundant and go down the path to beauty and love and light and bring everyone with you, right? How can you do that? If you're speaking to yourself in an ugly way, don't let the enemy break you down because you are the only defense that you have against the enemy.
You have to stand up and say, I will not let you in. I have a shield against negativity. There is no harmful hurtful verbiage that will enter my mind. And that will come out of my mouth and ask the Lord to help you with this. And so that you can be the vessel for his beautiful, loving, incredible, encouraging, encouraging words. James three, five says, likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark ladies. When you think your words don't have power, the Bible tells you right here and now consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. We have some of the largest forest fires happening right now in our country that are uncontrollable. Those forest fires that are breaking down homes and families and forests, and they are wreaking havoc upon society.
Those forest fires were started with one tiny spark. Your words have that power. You have no idea that the verbiage that you say how little you might think it impacted or, or, Oh, oops. You know, I just messed up and said something hateful or hurtful that phrase may have the power to impact and literally shift the direction of someone's life. You have the power with the tiniest spark of your word to choose. Do you want to break someone down potentially for the rest of their life or my friend? Do you want to speak a spark of encouragement and love and light lift someone up for potentially the rest of their life? You have the power. Yes. You four 29 says, do not let any unwholesome talk, come out of your mouth, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen, I have to say this verse again.
Like I'm going to frame this verse and like tattoo it on my forehead. Not really, but I'm going to tape it everywhere. Ephesians four 29. Do not let any unwholesome talk, come out of your mouth, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen, be love, be light, encourage your kids and kids encourage your parents. How, when was the last time we told our parents you're doing a great job and you did a great job. When was the last time you forgave? This is huge. When you don't forgive, you are going to be filled with toxicity and toxicity, bubbles out into verbiage. Forgive, forgive everyone, forgive your past. Forgive your parents. Forgive your spouse. Forgive that friend that hurt you. Forgive the guy that told you. You had cellulite in eighth grade. Forgive him.
They know not what they do. My friend, forgive, forgive, forgive, and then forgive some more and then pray for them. Yes. I challenge you to find so much love in your soul. That not only do you forgive, but you then love that person. Oh, I forgot this one. Forgive yourself. How often have you messed up? Are you holding on to resentment toward yourself? Have you hurt yourself before and you feel bad or guilty? Have you been mean to your children or your spouse? Have you done something wrong that you're still holding onto? Have you sinned? Guess what? You can let go of that right now today, because guess who died for you on the cross? Ask for forgiveness and you will have it and then become a beacon of light with your words, speak light and love. Everywhere you go. You have so many incredible gifts.
You should be sharing them with everyone around you. Don't be afraid. What other people think of you is none of your business and all we care about and all you should care about is choosing path B the path of least resistance, the path of beauty, the path of encouraging words, the path of love. I challenge you today, my friend to stop speaking, hateful negativity, stop gossiping, stop surrounding yourself with things that break down your words and allow you to be a vessel for the enemy. Because my beautiful friend that will lead, you know where good. And not only will you hurt yourself, but you'll hurt the people around you and your words have the power to spark a forest fire. Yes, you, you have so much power. Everybody meets encouraging, encourage someone every day. Even if it's yourself, look yourself in the eyes and say, Hey, yo girl, you looking good today.
Like I am feeling your hair. You're gorgeous. You're rocking those jeans, mama. Like those mom jeans look good on you. When is the last time you've encouraged yourself, encourage your children once a day, get down on your knees and look them in the eyes. Tell them something great. Tell them you're proud of them. That they're doing a great job that they're inspiring their brother. They were such an incredible listener. And you're so thankful that they made your life so much better today. Tell them, tell them the good, not just the bad. Look at your spouse, tell your spouse what an incredible job they are doing. How proud of them. You are thankful that they work so hard for you. Thankful that they made that dinner or that they put their shoes away. Whatever. What are you grateful for? What do you love about them? Share it.
Why are we so focused on all the negative things in this world? When we have the opportunity to focus on all the insane, incredible blessings that are everywhere, there is a blessing and every single situation you have the choice to see it, remove the veil from your eyes and remind yourself that you only see the beauty. You only allow the beauty in so that you can only allow the beauty out. I'm going to leave you with this. And this may make some people uncomfortable, but that's why I'm, that's why I'm doing this show. Because if I can encourage one woman to change and become her absolute best self, then I have one. If I can inspire you right now today to choose the right path for your life and to be a beacon of insane light and beauty and glory and love to become what you are truly destined for.
I have one, if you remember nothing from this show or sermon, whatever you want to call it, I'm not quite sure the nature of your words reveals the nature of your heart. Whoa, the nature of your words reveals the nature of your heart. This one was from Brandon and I just sat there with such clarity. In that moment, you can feel people getting uncomfortable because when your words are full of hate, your heart is full of hate. And listen, that does not mean there's something wrong with you. It means there's something deep rooted that you need to release. Ask yourself. If there's something you're angry about resentful for unforgiving, and then give it to God and let it go. There's no reason to hold onto anything from your past, because today is the first day of the rest of your life. Forgive, let it go work on it.
Get the therapy that you need, pray for forgiveness or forgive yourself or whatever you need to do to move forward and recognize that you have the power to choose your path right now today. And you want your heart to be a heart of beautiful words and love, and you want your heart to reflect the beautiful nature of your words. There it is. Thank you Brandon, for inspiring that message. And I hope mama. I so pray that you found what you needed to hear in this message. And then if you're speaking positive words and love and light, and you're speaking it already, God, I pray that your words are amplified right now in that you can create more ripples out in the world and help other people to change the way that they speak and recognize that their words are directly crafting the rest of their lives.
I pray that you're able to change your words. If you don't have the right words coming out of your mouth, I pray that you asked for help and guidance from him and know that you can forgive yourself today and move forward with a fresh new start. I am so proud of you, mama, because you inspire me every day. You are brave. You are fearless. You are taking steps forward in the call. That's been put upon your life and you are doing so without restraint, leaping forward, and knowing that you can trust and have faith in him, your path is being laid before you and I pray that every brick that's laid is created with love and light cheering for you every day as always love and light, Stef.
