Last, because committing to a podcast was my way of showing up consistently and dedicating myself to my mission.
What has podcasting done for my business? Well, my podcast grew my revenue by over 98%! My community has grown by thousands and it has allowed me to touch more people than I ever could have imagined. Welcome back to The Mompreneur Mastermind Show. I'm Stefanie Gass, success strategist and passive income queen creator. If you're ready to step into your God led potential, create profit from your passions and capture the success that is already yours. This podcast was made for you as always, and you can find out more and connect with me over stefaniegass.com. So grab that cup of coffee or fill up that glass of wine. And let's dig in to today's show. Let's read the review of the week. This review is left over on iTunes and it is from Marine Edwards. She says, this girl is my new IgE and podcast BFF five stars. Maureen says, so I just discovered Stephanie's Instagram last week, and then concurrently this podcast. I'm a stay at home mom and small business owner with an additional side hustle myself. She brings so many basic attainable free ideas on how to grow your business. And following. I also love that she wears her faith proudly and keeps it real I'm in. Hey Maureen. Thank you. You've made my entire day and Hey sister, friend, if you haven't left a review, why not? Have you learned something? Have you had fun with me? Have you laughed at me? I hope so. Pause this episode right here. Right now, head on over to iTunes, leave a written review and I might read yours live next on the air. If you've ever been frustrated with growing your following, have you ever sat there and stared at the live that nobody watched or maybe published the YouTube video that tanked, maybe you're sitting there staring at that blank, caption on Instagram, trying to think about something that's going to resonate with that audience. And then you post something so Epic and you get like five or 10 likes. Oh, I've been there. Believe me. I've tried everything to scale and grow an online business from a YouTube channel to thousands of dollars on Facebook advertising to the most Epic Instagram and Facebook captions ever only to get stomped out by the algorithm. And I think I found literally the Holy grail it's podcasting truly in only seven months. My community has grown by thousands and thousands of people. Revenue has exploded by over 98% because of all the new, amazing listeners, just like you, that are in the community and wanting to work with me at a greater capacity. So, Hey, audio is exploding over 30% every single year. Why not start a podcast record thing every week and then repurpose it to YouTube. Facebook, Instagram, Instagram TV. Oh my gosh. It's like the most amazing thing ever if I have your wheels spinning. And you're like, but Steph, what would I talk about? What the heck would my podcast be about what anybody listened? How do you start a podcast? I got you. I have a new training. It's only 45 minutes and I'm going to walk you through every question you could possibly have. And you can grab your seat over at Bitly slash 10 steps to podcasting. And that's the number 10 Bitly slash 10 steps to podcasting. I'll meet you inside. So in addition to all the ways we've talked about growing a following, I mean, gosh, this podcast is touched on at all. I've taught you guys about Instagram stories. I've taught you about growing a following, using different social media aspects, using Pinterest, all of the technical stuff. I've taken you through sales funnels. I mean, come on, right? But I think what we haven't talked about and which is almost more important than anything else are the pillars of trust. Like how do we get our avatar, that client that you dream of? She's like the perfect potential client or customer for you. How do we get her? Not just to see your stuff and check you out and like a couple posts here and there, or go listen to one of your episodes, but to actually trust you and like you at such a deep level, that she continues to follow you, that she keeps showing up for you. And that ultimately she wants to work with you. Like you are her person. How do we do that? So there are, in my opinion, five pillars of trust that are going to create a loyal following for you and then a loyal following that's when it starts to explode because those people are avid fans. You know, they're not just a customer, they're a fan. So they're going to stick with you. They're going to purchase more than once, most likely. And then they're going to talk about you and that word of mouth, that organic growth that is pure gold, my friend. So here's the first secret. Number one, this one's groundbreaking. Are you ready? Are you ready for your brain to explode? Okay. Number one, consistency, consistency. How many of you, you know, you pop on Instagram, you post up a story here and there. Maybe you put up a brand new feed picture with a caption a couple times a week, and then you can throw a video up there once in a while. That's what I was doing. And it was growing me slow as molasses believe. So what shifted in creating this huge, huge sense of trust my audience? It was consistency. And for me it was this podcast because here I am sitting behind this mic currently on my bedroom floor hiding. Cause my kids are in the other room, husband in the garage, clinking around. So I'm hiding in here, sitting on my floor, speaking to you through this microphone, wearing my comfy clothes with way too many drinks. I think I have a drinking problem. You guys, I have like 10 drinks open. I have every drink you could imagine. I don't know what the deal is with that. Dave, you do that weirdo. Anyway, let's get back to consistency. I have to show up for you and me having to show up for you. You have come to look forward to it. You know, Stefie showing up every Monday and every Thursday, I know I can listen to her, teach something new, pour into me. It's going to solve a problem that I'm currently facing. Right? And so my customers and my listeners in particular, they're always going to come back for more. And when you start showing up for your avatar, they start showing up for you. So consistency is number one. And I want you to think about how can you create a plan of consistency? I think at a minimum, regardless of what you do, it would be once a week. Okay? Regardless of what you do, whether you're a network, marketer, blogger, Etsy, seller, like coach, you can put content out one time a week. Okay? And like I mentioned, at the beginning of the episode, I highly recommend like if you do podcasting, you can record one time and then transcribe it, use it for your blogs, use it for all the written stuff and then convert into an MP4 which zoom will do for you. And you can upload it as video wherever you want. So you can repurpose the content you're doing once a week. Okay. It doesn't have to be hard. So commit to consistency. If you really want to instill that trust and have your audience looking at you more as a friend or a mentor than this untouchable across the screen. Number two second pillar of trust for me. And my opinion is sharing vulnerabilities, sharing the hard stuff. And this is so awkward for people because it's uncomfortable. It can be embarrassing to share, but when you consistently show up and then you start storytelling, you start opening up about the ways you have failed about the ways that you are like your avatar and those hard moments that, you know, gosh, I mean, you guys have heard me, like, I've talked about how I gained 60 pounds, how I had business failures, how I got breast implants and then got them removed. I have talked about how we had to borrow money from our kids' savings account. I mean, I've tried to think of every dark season as an entrepreneur because those hard moments and believe me, those are not easy to share, but once you share them, a couple things happen, first of all, it gets off your chest. And it feels really good to put it out there in the world and just say, Hey, I dealt with this and I made it like, I'm still standing. I was able to grow through it, grow from it. And also the other beautiful thing that happens is other people start to resonate. They're like, Oh my gosh, I'm facing that right now. Oh my gosh. I also went through that. You know, and those vulnerabilities, they make you real instead of this, you know, fan, like for example, I tried to do a YouTube channel and I was like this fancy schmancy business check. I'm like, how do you add a clickable link in your video today? I'm going to show you guys how to add a clickable link. Like hilarious. Okay. That is not at all resonating with people unless they just need to add a clickable link. Like they're not coming back for more. They're not subscribing to my channel. You know, that's just a one time. That's like a wham, bam, thank you. Ma'am I want that. I want trust. I want my avatar. Her name is Lola. I want Lola to be like, gosh, Stephanie has gone through so many things that I've also gone through, but now she seems to be having success and balance. And she's really aligned with spirituality, which is also me. Like she is me, right? Like Lola understands me. And I understand Lola and me sharing vulnerabilities makes me reachable to her. It makes me on the same level as Lola. It makes me her BFF in a sense, because it's almost like we're having this deep conversation, even though it's across the screen or it's across the speaker. Number three, the third pillar of trust is to share testimonies instead of, you know, yes. We're consistently showing up, yes, we're going to share our heart or our dark seasons. All of the stories that made us who we are and the journeys, but you also want to share the successes. Kay. So this is where testimonials come in and this is your own testimony, right? Like I'm always talking about how podcasting shifted the platform piece of the business for me. And I'm constantly preaching that because I just believe so strongly that it can help so many women because the number one constraint I hear from you guys is that I can't grow a following or it's growing too slow or there's no engagement. This literally solves half of all of the pain points that I've ever heard truly. So you've got to share the testimony. So that's me sharing a testimony because I had a win after going through vulnerabilities after struggling thousands of dollars on ads and dah, dah, dah, dah. Right? So it's your testimony and it's also, if you have clients, like let's say you're a weight loss coach. Okay. And you're consistently showing up once a week and you've decided to do a podcast or you've decided to do a blog or whatever. And you're sharing vulnerabilities like, okay, I really, with, with binge eating and then I would fall off the wagon and it was so hard to climb back on and I had gained 30 pounds. Like you're sharing these hard stories. We, you also want to share the testimony. Here's what changed it for me. So your next story and your storytelling is I figured out a way to understand food. I figured out how to design macros that were going to fuel my body, leave me feeling full and also trick my mind into thinking I was eating all those sweets and treats, you know, instead of having a chocolate chip cookie, I'm making this really healthy grain-based cookie or avocado cookies or whatnot. And over time I was able to lose that way. I'm feeling incredible. Maybe you've got this awesome picture of you like pulling your pants forward because they're so baggy. So it's your own successes that are linked up to the vulnerability stories that you've shared in the past. You also want to use your own customers because social proof is super key. If Mary starts talking about how your amazing macro workbook helped her change, the way she thinks about food, more people are going to take you seriously. And then John steps up and says, Holy smokes, this macro workbook, it made, you know, meal prep 10 times easier for me because we use the same 10 ingredients. And so there's John testimony. Okay. So if you can ask any previous customer or client that you've ever had, that's had a successful experience with you to write you a quick two or three sentence review that you can share, or even better record a quick video for you that you can then embed in your sales pages, in your email marketing on your Facebook pages, in your Instagram stories. I think testimonies are one of the best ways to create trust because we love reviews. How many of you go to Amazon and you sort by review first? I know I love to make sure something is rated as high as possible before I invest in it. And I don't think that investing in people is any different. So utilize those testimonies. And if you don't have any testimonies start trading, maybe some free stuff in exchange for reviews and testimonies, maybe you can offer something at a discounted price in exchange for testimonies, because that is such an integral piece of trust when it comes to your Lola, okay. Number four is relate-ability. So this is the fourth secret to creating a loyal following that really, really trusts you. How are you relatable? So we've talked about consistently showing up, you're sharing these vulnerabilities. You've got these awesome testimonies and most of that is paired with your business. Okay. But what about being relatable to Lola on a personal level? For example, I have this faith and business based bounds podcast, right? I'm talking mostly about business mindset balance. Like it's kind of in that wheelhouse, but my girl, Lola, she's not just listening to this show. She's following me on Instagram and she's all up in my story's going, what Steph doing today? And guess what Steph's doing Mamba and hot mess, you know, trying to clean, trying to keep up with the laundry, like running, picking up my kiddos. You know, I'm talking about little wins when it comes to being a mama bouncing life. I do behind the scenes of me recording a podcast from my floor, for example, in my bedroom or me hiding in my closet, doing a podcast recording because I need to be relatable to Lola. It's not just about vulnerabilities and all these success stories. Lola wants to know who I am. Who is the girl behind the course? I'm thinking of purchasing, right? Like, does she really understand me? Is she living my life? So how can you add in some relate-ability to your avatar? And that starts with really understanding who you're marketing to. I go, as far as naming them, what do they do? What do they eat? What are their passions? What are they gifted at? Where are they struggling? Why can't they scale? Why can't they lose the weight? Why can't that person DIY the dresser? Like, I don't know. What do you do? And why is your human being, why do they need it? Why you got to get this? You have to get this because then you can think about all the stories and all that ways that you are relatable to that person. Remind them what it was like when you were in their shoes. It was okay. Like I'm still in my mama's shoes. Literally. I'm like, I am still running a business and a household and struggling to keep up with all of the things, you know, just learning how to outsource. I still struggle with figuring things out. I still struggle with what people think of me sometimes or finding successes through X, Y, Z. So I'm going to share that because it makes me relatable because she's feeling it right now. So I want you to think about that. Go and do that exercise with your avatar name them mine's name is Lola. You can come and share the name of your avatar with us in the Facebook group, if you want. But think about how maybe going live on Instagram stories and maybe posting some new captions in your Instagram that are more focused on relate-ability. And I don't mean all the time, but you want to spread that out. You want to spread out a testimony, then something relatable, then maybe you're talking about a vulnerability, maybe a business win. And so it's really balanced. You don't want to only focus on one strategy. K the final strategy for creating a loyal trusting. Following number five is free solutions over and over and over and over and over like you are giving away your best. You are giving away your most prized information, all your secrets, like give it all away for free and you're going, what I can't staff, how am I going to make money? Well, you're never going to make money. If you don't have an amazing loyal, trusting, following, that's ready to purchase from you. Am I right? So you first have to get your Lola to trust you. And how do you do it? You're going to take a look at who that person is. Kate. You're going to take a look at that exercise that I just took you through and say, what are all the pain points this person is facing? The other day I did this and I had over 30 pain points that my Lola is facing today. So then I can script out podcast episodes just like this to solve her problems. So for example, it might be okay. I have a customer here and there, but nobody's repeat purchasing from me. Or I have a couple of followers on social, but they don't seem to be engaging with me. It's because you don't have the loyalty on the trust factor there yet. So that's me showing up right now, creating this podcast episode with five secrets to creating a loyal following and building trust for free. Do you see that like, this is me giving a free solution to a problem my Lola has and I'm going to do it over and over and over every week, twice a week for as long as it takes for Lola to hear me, trust me, be loyal to me. And when Lola finally thinks of working with someone or buying a course or leaping on her biggest dream, do you know who she wants to work with me? Because she already knows me and I'm relatable to her and I'm reachable to her. So you can do that too. And it starts with adding those value-based solutions in a consistent way. And my favorite way to do this, you guys is to go through that brainstorming exercise of your avatar, listing out every pain point, and then coming up with the topics that you can teach. And I recommend figuring out what your favorite way to consume information is. And then that's probably going to be similar to how Lola likes to consume her information. Do you listen most often? Are you listening to podcasts? Are you listening to audible books, then audio would be a great fit for you or are you a video person? You know, are you watching all the lives? And are you hopping on Instagram TV and all of the videos that, that are on YouTube? Do you like that? Do you prefer that? So if that's the case, maybe your Lola is a video person and you should be showing up on video. So just think about how does your avatar like to consume information and that's how you want to be showing up in the world. There you go. Those are my five secrets to creating a loyal and trusting following. That's going to stick with you and not just be a customer, a client, but also a fan. And they're going to keep showing up for you consistently over time. They're going to talk about your brand, talk about your businesses and that's going to ultimately help you win big. All right, boss, I am praying over you. Now. I pray that you find peace in your day. You create some space in your heart to fill it with whatever lights you up. I pray that you find some exciting motivation or some inspiration today to get your juices flowing on your next big steps in your business. That I pray that you find the vulnerabilities and the dark seasons and the journeys in your life has motivation to inspire your audience because they want to hear from you. They want to know you and you can help them grow through it. Just like you did. I'll see you soon as always love and light.
