IG. Ahh.. it really is a love-hate relationship isn't it? I agree.. it takes time to show up, the algorithms are a bummer, DM'ing and commenting back to EVERYONE can be a long process.
But here's the skinny:
IG is not going away. And it's becoming the go-to social media network, hands down. Even over FB. Why?
Consumers are buying direct from IG
E-commerce and brand friendly
Messenger is built in
Better story capability...
Should I go on?
Fact: You need to be on IG to make connections, network, stay front of mind, humanize your brand or business.
Fact: The first thing people see when you come to 'check ya out' is your BIO.
Fact: You have SEVEN seconds to capture someone's attention and for them to decide if they want to click away or stay on your feed.
Your BIOGRAPHY IS CRITICAL.
About 4 months ago I started asking for feedback on mine... here's what I got:
"So what do you actually DO?"
"I don't understand who you are marketing to..."
"Where can I go to learn more?"
Crap. Haha. Lucy got some work to do....
I started testing different language, fonts, links... and everything in between. After tweaking my bio so that it was SUPER CLEAR what I did, who I was, what value I was adding with a flair of Steffie Style personality... it started WORKING FOR ME!
My links were getting double the clicks and my leads were growing because people actually knew HOW I could help them. DUH! Imagine that...
In today's show I will walk you through what I did to make-over my biography and how you can make some simple changes to yours.
Be sure to take a before and after screenshot of your IG bio and share it in our FB community!
Let's dig in.

Hey, beautiful. Welcome to episode number 53. And today we're going to be talking about our Instagram bio and how you can create the most amazing Epic Instagram bio for this year. A bio that is really going to capture new leads. It's going to help you some more of your products, goods, and services. And I'm going to teach you all about bio hacking as an Instagram bio hacking, and it's going to be so good. But before we get into today's topic, I'm going to read this review left over on iTunes. It's titled so encouraging and informative. It's a five-star review left by my girl, my friend, Lindsay crouch. Lindsay says I love stuff. And this podcast as a mom of three young boys and small business owner steps, topics are so relatable and useful. I learned something big for my business or a life tool with every single episode. I listen as often as I can love turning on steps, podcasts while I get ready in the morning or drive to work. Thank you, Steph, for all your love and light. Oh my goodness. No, thank you Lindsey for taking the time to leave that review. I appreciate you. And I'm so grateful to have you as part of my mom boss,
What's up mama boss. Welcome back to The Mompreneur Mastermind Show. I'm Stefanie Gass, success strategist and passive income queen creator. If you're ready to step into your God led potential, create profit from your passions and capture the success that is already yours. This podcast was made for you as always, and you can find out more and connect with me over at stefaniegass.com. So grab that cup of coffee or fill up that glass of wine and let's dig in to today's show.
Done. All right, let's dig into Instagram bios and I'm going to call this Instagram biohacking just cause it sounds super cool. One of my favorite things to do is head over to Instagram, scroll for people that I would resonate with so that I can start connecting with them with similar followers, with people within my niche. And it's super interesting because I can pop over to their account and right away by looking at their bio, I can decide, is this my type of person? Is this someone I want to connect with? I also, a lot of times actually I would say 75% of the time end up getting confused. When I look at their bio, because it's either not super clear, what do they do? Or it has zero personality in it. And it's only what they do like a business card or there's nothing there at all.
And I'm like, woo, like slow your roll. Yo, the Instagram bio is life. Like if you are on this app, you have to take the time craft a killer bio, especially today in today's day and age, when businesses are shifting online, brands are all in the know about creating umbrella branding and Instagram is really becoming the go-to platform for people within our demographic. As far as online entrepreneurship, when we know one thing for sure, which is we only have between two to 15 seconds at best to grab someone's attention and to shift them into a scroller on our feed. And then we have even less percentage chance that they're going to follow us. So we have to make that bio and that photo really, really great. Am I right? So let me ask you, what do you think about your Instagram bio? I want you to pull up your Instagram bio look and analyze, take a screenshot of what it is now, and then I want you to listen to these tips and hacks for making the most incredible bio.
And then I want you to take a new screenshot of your bio so that you can compare the two and come on over and post it in the mompreneur mastermind group and show us how you spruced up what you got going on. So the first tip here, this tip isn't even about your bio necessarily, but it's your profile photo, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please make sure that your Instagram bio is the best photo of you that you have personally. I highly recommend using professional photo here, a headshot, you know, a lifestyle photo it's really clear. It's got a lot of white space. It's your beautiful smiling face. I think that really resonates with your audience. It creates recognition as well because that it's so tiny, that little Instagram bio, that the closer up you get of your face and of you, the more recognizable you are to your audience.
So please make sure that that photo is really great. And as much as we love our four children or our 17 dogs, I think really having you as the forefront to your Instagram account is important. Especially if you're running a business brand service product, any of those things through your Instagram, it would be important to have you as the forefront of that. Sure. Now, second tip here is to you use your Instagram biography to attract your ideal audience or your ideal avatar I E customer client, et cetera. Yes. So if you want to get new Instagram followers, which is, I think the end game, we want new followers so that they see our photos pop up in their feed. They're noticing us, we are staying front of mind. And when we stay front of mind, it helps them to come visit our page more often to check out our Instagram stories.
Whenever we have a new follower, our stories will show up in their timeline and that allows us to stay at the forefront of their, which then hopefully will in turn in time, create a new customer or a new relationship. Your viewers need to understand immediately quickly what you're all about and a good Instagram bio explains what your business is and what you do. If you want to stand out for whatever your expertise is, let's say that you have an amazing coffee company. If you want to stand out for that amazing coffee company, you've gotta be sure to include details about it in your bio. People are sometimes very vague about what they do and that's really important. It's also a good idea to focus your Instagram bio copy on how you help or inspire this audience. It's more about them than it is about you.
Sometimes people will say, well, let's have this be your business card. Definitely not business cards are stuffy. They're super dry. I think your Instagram bio is where you can put your personality in there. You can put flare, you can have emojis, but it is where people come to see who are you? What do you do? But more importantly, why am I here? What value am I getting? What are you going to give me? So that's what I mean by that. And then writing this copy so that it speaks directly to your target audience and it's going to attract prospective clients and customers. More of those people that resonate with this bio are more likely to click that follow button. Yes. So for example, when you head over to my account, it's instagram.com/stefaniegass. Here's what my bio says. And I want you guys to think about this.
Remember the key questions? Does it say what I do? Does it showcase my personality and does it resonate with my ideal avatar? And also does it show them what they are going to gain by following me? All right. So those are the questions here. It is. So my username is Stephanie gas and then my Instagram name in the name field is the mompreneur mastermind show. We'll get to that in a second. It says faith based business and balance coach step into your God led calling iced coffee obsession, plus positivity, enthusiastic number one podcast for mompreneurs. And then I've got a link tree clickable link within the bio. It's got some emojis in there. I think it's super fun and spicy. I also used some different fonts here in my bio to create variety, but does it explain what I do? Faith based business and balance coach?
Yes. Does it say who I am? Yes. It has my name in there for searchability. Then next one. Does it resonate with my avatar? Well, geez. Let's see talking about business and balance, which all of you are into, right? Yes. Are you into that? You balance business, huh? Then it says iced coffee obsession, because let's get real. We are all mama's dad, preneurs entrepreneurs, I think probably 99% of you drink coffee. And then it says positivity enthusiast. I want to repel the people that aren't my people, you know, like if they're not super positive, overly happy ice coffee, junkies that are into faith and business and having it all like Felicia, I want to attract those people. So I also want to repel the people that are not my avatar. And then lastly, it says, what are they going to get from me? Well, the number one podcast for mompreneurs step into your God led calling, right?
So they're getting inspiration. They're getting free training. They're getting all the things they need to know about being a mom. Preneur. I believe that my bio is hitting all of those points. My photo is a clear professional headshot slash lifestyle photo. So check the boxes. Now let's dissect this a little bit first, if you'll notice now here's the third tip, which is use the name field to share your top targeted keywords or searchable terms. So what does this mean? Okay. When you guys set up your Instagram account, it'll ask you, what's the name of your account? Well, my name is Stefanie Gass, so it's instagram.com/stefaniegass. That's in the bio, but what about the username? You've got the name and you've got the username. A lot of you probably have the same name in both places, but what you may not realize is that people can search by not only your name so they could type in Stephanie gas in the search bar and my account will come up, but they could also search for my username.
And my username is The Mompreneur Mastermind Show. One of my clients, her name is Becky van Berg, but her company is balanced with Becky. So she's going to use those two searchable terms that her customers, clients avatars might be looking for in both of those fields. Be sure that you're utilizing that because otherwise you're missing out on very limited, valuable search space and SEO within Instagram. Think about keywords that your followers would be searching for. So definitely if you have a business name, I would use that. Or for me, I've got this podcast that people would be searching for. And then your personal name should be in there as well. All right, next tip. Add clickable links within your Instagram bio. You could also do a branded hashtag within your bio. So back in the early parts of last year, you could only have one clickable link, but did you know that since then you can actually put in hashtags and they will be a clickable link or the app symbol automatically becomes a clickable link. So if you have a secondary Instagram account, like if I had another page for the mompreneur mastermind show podcast, I could put at the mompreneur mastermind show in my bio and it would actually be a clickable link. How cool is that? I also could put in hashtag the mompreneur mastermind show or hashtag saved the moms, a couple of my branded hashtags. And those would be clickable. It's a great way to add another form of searchability right there in your bio. Cool. Right. Hey you.
So I talked about what podcasting has done for my business last episode, but just in case you didn't hear it has exploded my community by thousands of engaged, excited new followers. And it's boosted my revenue by over 98%. Podcasting is growing by 30% every single year and audible consumption is on the rise. If you're looking for a way to grow your following and build your brand and business super quickly without ever having to show up on video without having a network, I think you should take a look at podcasting, take my quiz and see if podcasting could be right for you. Head over to podcast pro university.com to find out if you should start a podcast,
Next tip is add a call to action. Oh my goodness. You must, you must. If this is the only thing you do, please do it. Add a call to action as the link right there in your bio. So the latter part of your bio really should be, what do you want people to do? What do you have for people? What's the freebie? What's the gift. What's the opt-in, where's the training. Where can they get more? This is what should be the final thing that they see here. It's a good idea that that last line tells them what's in that clickable link. So for me it says, number one podcast for mompreneurs, like what this podcast for mom bosses, like I'm interested in that, you know, it could say bounce with Becky, her company could say, grab your top five balance tips or take the balance quiz.
How balanced are you? So you want to say, what's your thing. And then you can put one specific link here or like me, if you have a couple key things that you try to drive traffic to use a link tree, which is free it's L I N K T R dot E link tree. And you can set up a little landing page that has a few different options for people. So when someone clicks the link in my bio, they get three options. Number one, the podcast, number two, the free guide, 30 ways to grow your following and engagement in 30 days, option three free masterclass. How I made 3050 $2 in 12 hours. Guys, what do you notice about these three call to actions inside of my link tree links, they're all free free training, free podcast, free guide, free masterclass, free, free, free, free, free, free, free, free.
You're always going to win by leading with free stuff, pouring into people, giving them answers, touching on their hot points. Now granted at the end of my free stuff, what do I do? I give them the opportunity to purchase something that's relevant. Like if they go and take my free master class, how I made 3050 $2 in 12 hours, I'm going to offer them passionately profitable. At the end of the webinar, if they get my free guide, 30 ways to grow your following and engagement in 30 days, it adds them into a drip email sequence where they get offered my ebook, a couple of my Facebook and Instagram courses, but that's over time. And it's a super light mention after they've learned stuff from me, which now allows them to like me and trust me at a whole different level before I hit them with my products.
So those of you that have your store link directly there, especially, especially if you're network marketing, especially if it's just a specific product that you offer. I would rethink that and try to come up with some type of call to action, clickable link that's value first. Now the next tip is, make it simple for your profile visitors to contact you. Okay? Make it simple for them, them to contact you. And the only way that you can do this is by switching to an Instagram business profile. If you want your profile to be like a once stop shop, they can click the links. They can email you. They can click it, all of the things right there, and you're not making it difficult for people which we know is key is to switch to your business profile by doing this. You're also giving them the option to add links within your Instagram stories.
You can use Instagram's analytics, which is really so huge. It shows me what days is my profile, getting the most engagement, what posts are resonating with people the most? You can also add key contact info, right to your bio. And I've heard the rumors like, Oh, you shouldn't have a business account because your algorithm's going to go down. I just think that's totally untrue. And I've actually done some research. Different sites found that it's definitely not the case. It may be become the case in the future, but for now having a business profile email is beneficial for those of you that are actually what selling products or running a business, truly. Once you've made the sale switch to a business profile, you can then choose. If you want to include your email, address your phone number, even a physical address. Like if you run a brick and mortar, if you have some type of boutique and this will not take away your character space, that's super valuable character space within your biography.
And then once you have these set up your visitor or your followers can come on over, simply click on it and go directly to the source. Instead of having to DMU, ask for all your links, dig through all of link tree links to end up on your website and on the contact me page to then copy the email address over into Google mail. Like it's just too many steps. They're going to stop the process and not even contact you at all. Believe me. So I think that's a really important one. Now my last tip here, and I'm going to give you a bonus tip. My last tip is to share your best Instagram stories, or if you're like me, you pretty much categories all your Instagram stories, using the highlights on your bio. If you head over to my page and you look at my bio, you're going to see these little circles called highlights right underneath the text.
If you click on the highlights, it's a categorization of my 24 hour Instagram stories. So it stores my live stories and there's 100 different stories that are allowed to be saved per highlight. So for my page, I've got lifestyle and this is kind of where I put all the generic stuff. I've got client love, where I put testimonies. Those of you that are sharing podcast, screenshots, Sam loving the show reviews. All of those stories get categorized into client love highlights. I have mom life because mom, wife, hashtag mom life. I have faith. And in that one, I put my inspirational quotes, prayers, morning, intention time, and then have a highlight for podcast. This is where I share all of the newest podcasts, any of the podcast, video clips that I want to share. I have boss lady and et cetera. So the beauty of this though, is it so visually appealing?
Cause you add these cute little graphics, these little clip art to your highlights. And then it allows people to click on something that they want to see. Like if they only want to learn about my podcast, they can click on podcasts right there within my bio and see 100 different stories related to podcasting. If they're just like, why just need to know about this chick Steph, like what does she do? They can head over there and click on boss, lady or mom, life or lifestyle, you know, or if they're thinking of hiring me, maybe they click on client love and check out all of the different reviews and all of those things. So I think it's, non-negotiable it listened to me now non-negotiable to be showing up on stories every day, unless you're social media detoxing, and then categorizing your stories using highlights, don't get left behind.
And this is something that really adds not only visual appeal to your Instagram bio, but it adds so much vulnerability by using stories. People want to know who you really are, are what is your date really look like? What is the behind the scenes with that client? What do you do when you're running around with your kids and at the same time run a business. So this is not about Instagram stories, but highlights is, and that's you get content for your highlights is by showing up on Instagram stories. So do it. Trust me, trust me, trust me, trust me. And speaking of Instagram stories, if you liked this biohacker episode and you're ready to dig into your own bio, take a screenshot right now, go into your Instagram stories. Never a better time to start something new than right now. Okay? Post that screenshot of the show.
I want you to hashtag the mompreneur mastermind show and then tag me at Stephanie gas, share it to your stories. And I will feature you in my stories. How fun is that going to be? And then my final bonus tip for you is to make your fonts different and use some cool Instagram, symbols, and just really play with the visual aspect of your biography. Use a couple of emojis, but here's the one that I love. And I don't think very many people know about it. If you go to cool symbol.com and you can just Google like cool Instagram fonts or unique Instagram fonts. But the one that I use is cool. symbol.com. You can type different lines in from your bio and then choose different fonts and copy paste them over into your Instagram bio. And they've got all caps. They've got, you know, shaded, they've got cursive.
It's really neat. So check that out just because you want to stand out, right? I mean, you want your bio to be better than the rest. You want it to speak to your audience. You want it to help you sell stuff. And really it's the gateway to whether people want to follow you or not how they know do I resonate with this person? So I want you to head on over and inventory your bio, make those changes, screenshot the show and let's kill it on Instagram this year. You feel me? I hope you love those tips on Instagram biohacking. I thought it was super fun to put that episode together for you and I can't wait to see the cool bios that y'all come up with. I'm going to send you off with soap much abundance. I want to pray over your business today that your business is wrapped in.
God's favor that you are clear and intentional on where you want to take your business. In the next 12 months. I pray that if you are stuck, you are held back in fear or you are unsure that you asked for clarity and that God provides you with whatever direction, mentor, coach, program, book, podcast, episode, that you need to fuel your fire and to give you clarity and peace.
