It's Monday! Yay! Ya'll know I love me a good solid Monday.
Just got home from our family cabin in Ruidoso. We went with some friends and all of us have little boys. I'm talking 5 little boys under 10 in one cabin... lawd have mercy! We had a blast though. Went snow tubing, had a mama's day out, complete with wine tastings, shopping, and girl-talk, oh-my. It was epic.
Now, after 4 days of "people-ing", my ambivert self is super ready to back slowly into my little corner and hide behind my computer, haha. Pretty excited about no appointments, no play dates, nothing but me, myself, and I today (and some Zumba, heyyy-o).
Am I just weird or do y'all feel like you have to recharge and detox after trips and hanging with people? Reply and lemme know!
Okay, okay, okay, I know why you're really here.
To find out HOW in the heck I Lost 75 Pounds & Went from a Size 14 to a Size 6! Crazy right?!
Before I dig into the how, let me start by telling you I've never just had it easy with my weight. I mean, I look at pizza and gain 5 pounds. Fo-real. I went from binge eating to calorie restriction throughout my early twenties, to taking adderall diet pills in my latter twenties, to working out for hours a day... Damaging my body, my mind, and my health to try and fit the standard society had painted in my subconscious as 'perfect' and 'beautiful'.
A decade later I realized that is all B.S.
One day after gaining 60+ pounds with both pregnancies, letting myself go, eating all the processed foods, fast food, and wearing size 14 mumu's to hide what I had done to myself I woke up and thought...
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. I am done. I am ready to love myself and stop punishing my body. I am ready to cherish this gift God has given me, and most importantly? I want to reclaim my energy and health for my family, my business, and myself.
And I freaking did it.
75 pounds in a year and a half?! Yep. From a size 14 to a size 6. Join me for today's show on HOW I was able to find a new wellness mindset, a lifestyle diet that fit me, and a workout regimen that I crave and am openly obsessed with.
If you've ever yo-yo dieted, found every excuse in the book to stay 'fluffy', unhealthy, unmotivated, or unhappy with your health... I can guarantee, I've been there. The best part is that I have found my true self and reclaimed my fitness. And oh yeah, I can feel my triceps for the first time in 33 years! It's the little things mama...
I appreciate you.

Okay. Girlfriends. So how the heck did I lose 75 pounds? Okay. Let's just rewind. Four years of my life. I basically spent overweight. I mean, my BMI would even have called me obese. I went through two pregnancies where I, to be really honest with you, I just used it as an excuse to eat.
I'm like, well, I'm pregnant. You know, I'm going to throw all of this stuff out the window. And honestly, I had never had a really great relationship with food before I got pregnant. Anyway, I was constantly using food as a security blanket, binge eating, and then yo-yo dieting or crash dieting or working out two or three hours a day to compensate for all of the food that I was eating. Like it was never a really healthy relationship throughout my twenties, then getting pregnant. I really had no idea how to balance pregnancy, all of the cravings, all of the morning sickness and maintaining health. And also I kind of just didn't care. I feel like I kind of gave up on myself and I was in this weird place in my life in business as well, where I thought success validation worthiness came from financial needs from recognition.
So I put myself last on the list. My health was absolutely last for many years and at my highest weight after my second son was born seven days after he was born, I found myself at 220 pounds. Yikes. I, I was in Google photos the other day, like just looking for something else. And I came across this video that my husband had taken of me taking my first son trick or treating. And this was seven days after Landon. My second son was born. Oh my gosh. Like you guys have to go to Instagram and take a look at the before and after picture, it's going to blow your mind. I was like, who is that's me? Like, I didn't even recognize myself. It's so crazy to see the massive transformation that's happened over the past two years. I just had no idea what I had done to myself.
I think I was just living in this, like, you know, don't look at it, don't think about it mentality. I would just buy bigger clothes and try to hide myself and continue to eat and validate all the reasons why that was okay. But at the same time as all of this health stuff is going on. And as you guys have heard me talk about this before I went through this big life transition and I found that network marketing, what I had poured into for four or five years, it wasn't fueling my soul anymore and really had to have this hard moment with myself and go through this really dark season to figure out who the heck I was. I didn't know who I was, what I was going to do or how I was going to find myself and reclaim my worth. So 12 months of soul searching began spiritual alignment, releasing blocks, mentors, new friends, prioritizing my health and finding a lifestyle diet that would work for me.
And through that process, you know, when you're purging all of these things out of your life, you lose stuff. And I lost unhealthy relationships. I lost a large portion of my income for a long time. I mean, network marketing was a massive provider for us. I've had, you know, my best month was $17,000 a month. Like that's crazy town, right? And so when I said, I'm going to step away from this and I'm not going to invest all of my energy and soul into this industry. Obviously the finances left me, but I trusted God that he was going to provide another source of income that was in better alignment with, with my call. And so I lost validation through all of the success and recognition that, that industry and that, that job had provided to me. I lost a piece of my former self really, but I found so much more guys.
I found spirituality because when you let go of something, you have no choice, but to clean to your faith, I feel like sometimes God rocks us and he rocks our world so that we can remember to trust that he's going to bring us back to the light. And this is where I found myself. So I found my spirituality. It was reinvigorated again, like it was lit back up in my soul. Gosh, I found friends that poured into me as much as I poured into them. It wasn't one sided. I found my health again, which is really what this episode's about. I found my new godlike calling, which is coaching and mentorship and being an educator for women on finding their balance, claiming their best life, living a faith led life and also being successful in business. Because I think that we all have so many gifts that we need to monetize because that's why we're here.
Right? I found balance. I found time again with my family and truly I found self-love in a big way. So through this really dark season, I actually found the light, believe it or not. And here's the new me. Okay. Two years later, happy, fulfilled fuel by God's passion and his call over my life, healthy relationships, feeling the best. I felt literally in years, spending time and money on my greatest asset, which is me because why guys I am worthy. And so are you, I'm 145 pounds today. As I record this episode, I don't have my inches in front of me or my measurements, but I mean, I have literally lost like a human being. It's so crazy. I told my husband like, yo, feel my biceps. Like you can actually see my biceps and my triceps. Like for the first time ever in my life, it's so much fun.
And I'm squatting just as much as the instructors in my class. Like I feel powerful. I feel strong. I am in control of what I put in my mouth. And so, and here's the thing, like, I can tell you, 80 pounds is not just go away. People see the before and after picture and like, Oh cool. Like, what'd you do? I want to do that. That's like girlfriend, it is just not, Oh, hi, what's the diet fad. What's that the secret I made a promise to myself and I get up every day and I put on the workout clothes. I show up, I give my best. And guys, I mess up. Yes, absolutely. Like I eat the pizza once in a while I drink the beer. I mean, beer, just like cherry wheat beer from Sierra Blanca right now. Like I'm going to break some macros for that.
But here's the deal I get back on track the very next day. I do not fall down the rabbit hole. I climb back up and I go, yeah, right back on my lifestyle diet. It's not a crash diet. It's my lifestyle. So ask yourself, what do you, you need to let go of to find your greatest you, because this isn't just about the food. This is about the mental game, feeding all of the crap. That's keeping you stuck in your weight. The fear that you're high behind. When you put that cake in your mouth, the emotions that we eat, it's about all of it. So what's the crap that you need to let go of to claim your best life. Are you ready? Really ready to commit to the change and the dedication to make a big shift. 80 pounds does not happen by following a crash diet.
It's literally daily action. And I'm going to go through that with you now. So here are, if you're saying yes, I am ready. Let me give you my secret sauce and it's not secret. Let me tell you the formula for success. When it comes to losing weight, being healthier, that's really the important thing is how can you be your healthiest? Just you feeling your best so that you can be happier and then pause to others. If you are not feeling incredible, how can you serve others in an incredible way? So here are the actionable all steps to reclaiming your wellness. Truly. Number one, define a goal, a realistic goal, six months or 12 months out. When I looked into mirror at 220 pounds. And I don't remember the day or the mental shift that happened me. I know it was a couple months after having my son, my business had kind of come to this crazy place.
I had a really important relationship that I thought at the time, kind of crumble away. And I think that's the moment where I was like, I've had enough. Like I am sick of feeling, sorry for myself. I am sick of hiding behind the carbs, the fast food like I'm done. And I just woke up one day with this massive passion on my heart to take control of my life again. And to realize that if God gave me this life as a gift, how can I waste it and treat myself with such disrespect? So when you come up with a goal it's I remember my very first goal was just to lose 50 pounds. And I was already losing weight because I had just had a baby, like all of the waterways, the weight from the child, et cetera, like that weight was falling off. So I felt like 50 pounds was this really attainable goal for me within a year.
So then what you're going to do, and if you want, it can be a size, maybe it's a clothing size, maybe it's inches or a percentage fat that you want to attain. I also had a goal of getting to, I don't remember, it was like 35% body fat at the time. So reverse engineer, a goal that has a tangible thing tied to it, a number of size inches, fat percentage, all of those things, and then reverse engineer your goal. So if you create this annual goal, then I can break it down into monthly components. Okay. Right. So how much would I need to lose every month to lose 50 pounds? And I would need to lose four pounds a month. Okay. That's totally doable. Right? And then break that down into weeks. I would need to lose one pound a week. So you now have this goal that you can create action items towards, to go out and crushes.
So I knew to hit this 50 pound weight loss goal, I need to lose one pound a week. Now, the second there's, there's some other components of this. So now you've got the goal. So what do you do with it? Many options. And the problem is that many people will take a look at that and go, well, I'm going to just do the cabbage diet for like the rest of my life. Like guys, that's not realistic, or I'm going to go work out. Like I used to do for three hours a day and eat an Apple. And Oh, I'll get to my goal within like two days guys. That is again, it's unrealistic. This is not a get rich quick scheme. This is not a get healthy quick scheme. This is I'm ready to actually change the rest of my life. Be the best of myself for the rest of my life every day forever.
It's not today. I'm doing a crash diet. So it's having the mentality of the long game. So first is defined the goals that will get you there. Number two, decide which fitness plan lights you up. I understand. And you guys, I am not a health coach. I'm not a doctor, a nutritionist. So y'all like, disclaimer, big old disclaimer, here, go meet with the nutritionist, a doctor, a wellness specialist, if you need one, but this is just, what's simply what's worked for me. And the biggest thing is that through diet alone, I never really achieved the results that I wanted through fitness alone. I never achieved the results that I wanted through diet and fit fitness. And the mental shift. I find only achieved what I needed to achieve to be my best me. So the second thing is, decide which fitness plan lights you up?
What do you love? There is no one size fits all don't ever let someone push the solution upon you. You must do homework workouts that are only 20 minutes long. Great. That works for some people. You must go to a gym and do hour long fitness classes. Great. That works for some people you must go out and do competitive or group sports. Great. That works for some people, but it doesn't work for everyone. So you have to be honest with yourself. What are the things that light you up for me? I thought, Oh, I'm going to do a home workout program. I've got the kids. I don't have time to drive anywhere. So I bought the big old package. I did the 20 minute workouts here at home. It just didn't fuel me. It was boring. I didn't like it. Having my kids hang on my legs.
Like I didn't like I would get tired. And I would just like, sit down and watch Shaun T like busted on. I'm like go Shaun T I'm like sitting there drinking my coffee. Like I need the competitive group aspect of fitness. And I also need the mental shift and mental break of being away from my children. When I work out fitness for me is so much therapy. It's unreal. Like I love going to the gym. I spend my, yes, it's a drive. Yes. It's an investment. I got the gym that costs the most money in town because they have the best daycare. They have an internet cafe where I can work. If I need to, like, it fuels me to be in a fitness class every day for an hour, lose myself in that fitness. Get to know everybody. I've got the accountability group. I have the community, I have the competitive aspect, which makes me work hard.
And I show up every day because people notice they're like, where were you yesterday? Like we missed you yesterday. And so for me, that's what lights me up. So you have to think about what is it for you? And then test it. If I hadn't tried the home workouts, I wouldn't know that that wasn't the best fit for me. If I hadn't tried the gym, I wouldn't know that that was the best fit for me. So find what you love. Number three, identify which healthy eating plan, lifestyle change, lifestyle change fits you best, not a crash diet, not starving yourself, not fasting. Gosh, you name it right. The low fat, the low carb, the Lotus, the low that like, if you look at something as a diet and as, as a bandaid, it will never be sustainable. And you're going to gain the weight back.
Like I am. My hand is up. I am a self-professed. I was a yo-yo diet or for so many years, I would crash diet, lose the weight, feel amazing, or take the diet pill or do the excessive workout only to find myself right back where I started a few months later because none of it was sustainable. And I hadn't changed my mindset to, I am worthy of the healthiest, most amazing life. I love myself so much. I will not treat my body with disrespect anymore. You first have to get there. So here's the deal. Try some different options. There are so many wellness plans out there. You can do clean eating. You can do something like whole 30 for me. I have personally found that the low fat diets don't work for me, the low fat, you know, chicken and vegetables. I just am always hungry and crabby.
And I binge eat on the carbs when I fall off. So I knew that wasn't the solution for me. I had also tried tracking calories that didn't really work for me either because I wasn't able to balance what I really wanted to eat. And then I wasn't getting nutrients from all areas because oops, I ate the muffin, which took like 750 calories. Right? So for me, what I found is that a keto slash paleo lifestyle was the solution. And I've been able to maintain that for over a year. You guys heard me talk about healthful pursuit and that is a weekly meal plan that literally gives you every single solution to having a healthy mindset, the macros that you need to follow. If you want to try something like a keto slash paleo, and here's the deal, keto gets a bad rap for being a fad diet.
Not if you do it right. I truly believe in this lifestyle. If you eat healthy fats, like avocados, eggs, cheese, things like that. And then you're getting all of the nutrients from vegetables. You eat a ton of vegetables and you look at it as what is the healthiest keto option. And then of course, you're adding in your potassium, your magnesium and your vitamin. And so you're really able to cover all areas. And to be honest with you, most nutrients that you get from your fruit come from vegetables in a much higher quantity and nobody needs carbs. I'm sorry. Okay. Again, not a nutritionist, but what nutrients do carbohydrates provide? Because really that just breaks down into sugar. Okay? And all you exercise. People don't yell at me, but this is simply what's worked for me. I realized there's not a one size fits all. So the point is that what works best for you?
What is the food choices that fill you up that you love? How can you create a healthy substitution for something that you, that you love? For example, if you love fried rice, make fried rice with rice cauliflower, like it tastes the same. If you love green chili stew with like a ton of potatoes in it, I'm just picking all the foods that I love. Apparently make that a veggie green chili stew. Like I can't even really taste the difference. I don't even miss the starches and all of the sugar I'm even able to create, you know, chocolate muffins that make me think I'm eating all these delicious, you know, unhealthy things. But it's really just this awesome muffin made with almond butter and eggs. And plant-based, Aritha tall as my sweetener. So go to Pinterest, see what lights you up when it comes to a diet shift, but then take the time to meal prep out so that you have success.
Dedicate yourself to tracking the foods that you put in your mouth and understand that it might be a learning curve, or you might need a plan. Like the one I talked about from healthful pursuit, you guys can grab that at Bitly slash healthy mompreneur if you need help, because this isn't a journey that you have to take alone. I mean, I understand. And then not everybody just gets it. What should I eat? What macros fit best for me and play with it. Make sure it's sustainable for your lifestyle. Not just a diet. All right. Number four, make a promise to yourself. This is where we get into the mental portion of this. You have to show up. I go to the gym five days a week. I don't care. What, what else is on my calendar? I am going to create fitness as a priority.
Sundays I meal prep. I don't care what else is going on. I'm going to set my family and myself up for success because we deserve to be healthy. I deserve to feel good about myself when I fall off my diet. And yes I do. And I, I believe in memories of our macros, I will go off eat what I want for a short period of time or for on a trip. Or I want to have a, a weekend of fun. And he, you know, I'm from New Mexico. So like he all the chili, the drink, the delicious beer, like whatever. It's okay, but just make sure that you do enjoy it. Don't have any guilt around it, but be dedicated to getting back on your lifestyle plan. By the next day, stay accountability. The best I've ever done isget a gym partner who shows up with me to classes.
We keep each other accountable. We text each other about our food text each other about our weight. We text each other about our fitness goals and having that gym community for me really helps me to be present in my best self, because I know other people are cheering for me. Other people are showing up for me, so I need to show up for them and then forgiving yourself forgiveness. When you fall off, it's all good baby. But don't just say, well, I fell off. So I'm not worthy of being healthy anymore. No, you fell off and that's cool. Like you enjoyed yourself, you indulged. And I think that's totally okay. And I actually think you should do that once in awhile, but forgive yourself and hop right back on it. And I hope you don't even need to forgive yourself because you know, it's okay.
If I take off a couple of days a month and I eat whatever I've been missing or create a substitution for what I've been missing, number five, track your progress. This is huge. How do you know if you are making headway every day, you're working out every day. You're, you're hitting the goals. You're tracking the food. How do you know if you're having success? If you're not tracking what's happening in your body. So what I love to do, it's crazy, but you could do a few things. You can get all your stats done at the doctor's office. For example, I used to be on thyroid medication and six months of following my keto slash low carb lifestyle and my fitness shift, I was completely able to get off of that medication. That was a huge indication for me, that this lifestyle was working for my body.
I also track my weight and I don't believe that your weight should be a big indicator of your health, but it should help you because you can then look at your percentage fat. You can look at your measurements and see how many inches that you're losing. So I track this in Google sheets and in my paper planner and I weigh in monthly, not daily, y'all it fluctuates you don't drive yourself nuts. But if you look at it on a monthly basis and say, wow, like I hit my four pound goal this month, like I used to, or wow, like I'm at a fine weight for me at this point. So I can say, wow, like I lost another inch of fat. That's freaking awesome. And I feel like I've had a massive win. Now that brings me to number six. And the last one, which is celebrate your wins when you hit the goal.
When I hit the 50 pound weight loss goal, and I freaking did it, you guys, and I've lost more than that since. And I'm, I'm at my pre-baby weight, five more pounds. And I will be at the weight I was when I met my husband eight years ago. I mean, that's so cool. And I'm healthier. I have more muscle mass than I've ever had before I fit into my clothes. And I feel good. I have confidence. And I'm excited about being my most healthy self for my kids. Having the most energy I possibly can for you all, for my business, so that I can show up and pour into people. It all takes energy, all of it. So if you can't muster up the energy you need from incredibly healthy whole foods and fitness and exercise, why wouldn't you do that? So take a minute and celebrate when you've had a win, maybe it's the first 10 pounds and you did it go on a shopping spree by yourself.
Something nice. When I hit my 50 pound weight goal, I took $350 and I went and I bought a bunch of new clothes and it was so liberating and awesome to go, Oh my gosh, like I'm feeding into this size that I haven't fit into in so long. And like I'm loving what I see in the mirror take a day or a weekend off and enjoy something that you've been wanting to do. Like go celebrate, get a massage, like whatever it is. And then remember this final takeaway. Guys, you are too important to treat yourself with disrespect, stop putting yourself last, put yourself first, the healthiest you creates the happiest you. And when you are the most fulfilled, you can show up and serve others at the best, highest capacity of what you have within your soul, your heart and your mind. So let's take this new year and claim it.
Let go of the poop that doesn't serve us. Like let it go. I am cheering. And I am praying over you that you are ready to claim your best life, make the change, do the thing, commit to the journey, the lifestyle change to becoming your most incredible you. I am sending you off with so much love. I pray over you, mama, that you find the inspiration to finally take that step in your healthiest, you, that you find whatever lights you up and you invest in it because you are worthy. They figure out the diet plan that fuels you, and then you stick to it with consistency and dedication and you don't let anyone or anything stand in your progress of attaining your most healthy life. I pray that you find the time to, and the courage to show up for your fitness to meal prep, the meals to figure out the how tos and that you're led to whatever resource you need to make that change as always love and light, Stef.
