100th Episode + 1-YEAR ANNIVERSARY?! 7 Lessons This Podcast Has Taught Me + Anniversary GIFT for You!
I am sitting here in disbelief... not only is tomorrow the 1-year anniversary of my podcast, but it is also the 100'th episode. 100 EPISODES, ya'll. That is crazy-town.
3 years ago I stepped away from network marketing and started leaning into a new calling... I wanted to inspire, educate, and transform the Christian Mompreneur. I wanted to show her that the call on her heart was there on purpose and there WAS a way to create a business out of it! I knew if I could get in front of more mamas, I could give her the tools she needed to create more space and time in her life. For not only her mission on Earth, but also herself AND her family. That there was a way for her to 'have it all' in a passive income way.
I started out with blogging... then YouTubing... then stellar IG captions... hmm... okay, maybe it's FB LIVE! (10 views later.... okay, maybe not). I was frustrated and overwhelmed. A year and a half later, I finally gave in and handed over control (like I should have from day 1, anyone else an Enneagram 3?)
God gave me the gift of teach and preach and I knew there had to be another way to impact His kingdom.
"Lord, show me how to further this dream. Give me the vehicle to inspire and transform MORE women. Help me do Your work, well."
I started my podcast after receiving clarity from holy spirit -- so clearly I saw "start a podcast" in a dream. Mmmmmkay, Lord knows best - let's do this thing. I didn't know how. I didn't know if anyone would listen. I didn't know how to make money podcasting. But I knew one thing for sure, God qualifies the called. He would open the doors and lay the bricks for this project. I just needed to trust Him.
I sat down at my old, staticky, $30 mic and pressed record. I shared my story. The real, honest truth for probably the first time ever. I decided that I wouldn't try to model anyone else. That I would proudly share my hot-mess-mom-ness, make-up free face, wing-ding hair, drinking iced coffee, while sharing my love for Jesus, and being braless and flawless. I decided to speak to you as if we were best friends having real girl talk... what would I say to my best friend who needed my help?
And it changed my life.
It changed my business.
It changed my heart.
12 months in and I've been forever transformed. I've learned 7 invaluable lessons from the power of authenticity and truth, to how relationships and networking can elevate and magnify your journey in ways you can't imagine, to receiving God's favor and provision when you are doing the work He is asking you to do...
In today's episode, I am sharing all of the lessons I've learned since embarking on this podcasting journey and... I am also giving you a huge gift. Why? Because, well... I want this experience for you, too. I want you to finally speak your truth, get your message into the world, and create change. I want you to grow organically and make MONEY from providing real value.
You can do this. I did it. I can teach you how. And today? I've got something that will get you there (and it costs less than a manicure... btw. Can I get an Amen????)

All right. Y'all I've been a podcaster for a year. This is weird. Like I never in a million years would have said, I'm just going to be a podcaster. So crazy. Now I've wanted some really amazing lessons in the year. I've been podcasting. And I'm going to go through those with you in no particular order. These are eight life lessons that I have been taught first is that figuring out your micro-niche and being authentic to who you truly are, will win every time before my show, I thought I had to be polished. I thought I had to have my makeup and hair done all the time. I thought I had to have a YouTube channel. I thought I had to have a perfectly curated feed with all the colors that went together and little Jamie's Haribo matched mommy's shoes. Like I thought I had to only talk about the wins.
I thought I had to hide when things weren't going right when I was failing at my business or having a hard time, because it would make me look weak. I thought I couldn't talk about my income because it would turn people away or because they would think that was too little and that I wasn't successful, or they would think it was too much. And think I was unapproachable. But let me tell you the truth. The truth is when you were finally you, when you finally step up to the mic with your mom, been a hot mess, mismatch, PJ's hot mess house, right? Like whatever you with your voice talking, the way that you talk joking, the way that you joke talking about the things that light you up, your tribe will emerge. And you start looking at how everyone else is talking and showing up.
And you stopped trying to paraphrase what that chick said, because she has a hundred thousand followers or whatever. And you just start saying, this is me. This is what I'm passionate about. I'm going to get up on my soap box and my soap box only. And I'm going to put out content 10 times more than I consume. And you just start showing up as you, you will win. And the second piece of this one is micro-niche, which means don't talk about everything. Get clear. Like I got so clear on my Lola, you guys have heard me talk about Lola incessantly. She's my bestie. I did so many exercises getting to know her. And I just got so clear on who she was and I just let all the filters go. I decided that if my best friend and I were sitting down having a glass of wine at a happy hour and we were joking and I was talking to her about my life and my business and the hard things I was going through and my struggles with my kids.
That's how I want it to show up on my podcast. And when I finally did that, and I finally started talking directly to Lola as if she was my best friend, everything exploded. So the first lesson I learned is that get clear and start talking to a specific human. Even if it's a, micro-niche like mine, which is Christian mompreneurs. Gosh, I was terrified of that. I thought I'm going to polarize everyone. That's not a Christian. They're not going to listen, which is absolutely not. What's happened. I'm going to only have moms listening to the show. And what if I, what if nobody likes it because I'm talking about religion and business and you guys, the complete opposite happened because I got so specific on who I was talking to people. Weren't wondering if I was for them. They were saying she is for me because she is me.
Do you feel that? All right, number two, the truth will set. You free. Dang it. If this one isn't true this year on the podcast, dang, I just opened up all the things I was scared to talk about. I talked about, I talked about building a network marketing business that ultimately failed. I talked about getting my breast implants removed. I talked about the fear of publicly opening up about that. I talked about ways I've failed as a mother. I've talked about ways I failed in business. I've talked about wins. I've had in business. I've talked about growing this community over 100,000. I've talked about how this podcast has been wildly successful. I've talked about money. I just decided that the truth will set me free. I'm going to stop hiding behind the things that I'm afraid to talk about. I'm going to stop hiding behind things.
I think people don't want to hear. And I'm just going to talk about me. All of me, the good, the bad, the ugly, the hard the failures, the wins. And I am free. It's like stepping up into, up in here. You are walking in there and you are ready to just confess your life, but on the air too, you know, 60,000 plus people, no big deal. Right? But I'll tell you something. When you decide who you're talking to and you're authentically you. And then you just start being brutally honest about where you are in the journey. And you stop trying to put frosting on an ugly cupcake. I don't know if that's a thing, but there you go. Because it's not about what the cupcake looks like. Okay. It's about what it tastes like. It's about are people laughing with you, living through you, feeling your storytelling and are you able to be relatable and trustworthy? Are you showing up with authenticity in the world? So that's number two is the truth set me free. It really did. Number three. The third lesson podcasting has taught me is that having an evergreen funnel that's free is an option.
Seven and a half years of being an entrepreneur. I always thought you have to pay for leads. You have to work 60 hours a week for leads. You have to go to networking events. You have to put thousands of dollars into trade shows. You have to run paid advertising. You have to hire people to figure out social media funnels and email funnels that convert and blah, blah, blah. And like actually in reality, all you have to do is start speaking solutions into your market over and over again, consistently and solving their problem. And the people show up and the leads start flowing in every single lead that I have today. You guys have heard that episode. I don't remember the number it's in the nineties, how I close 55% of new leads in 90 days. All of those leads, 95% of them come directly from my podcast, which is free content.
I am not paying for people to listen to my podcast. I don't have any ads running traffic to my podcast, all organic, all of it. And within six months of this show, revenue is up over 98% and it's even more today. Okay? Having an evergreen funnel is a reality and it can be for you too, but you have to get out of your own way and stop chasing the sale and start chasing the service, which brings me to number four, which is service before sales. So how do we get the evergreen funnel we serve? We stop worrying about how to pay the bill. How am I going to, and look, I'm not minimizing that because I feel you okay, but hear me, we stop worrying about the how, and we start worrying about the solution. The what? How can I get her from point a to point B? How can I get her to what, understand the macros, to lose the weight, to figure out how to work out at home with her kids to launch the business, to believe in herself,
Like what is her biggest struggle
Or him his biggest struggle, your human. When I finally got out of my own way and stopped just creating random things and throwing crap at the wall to see what would stick to make me a dollar and started saying, who is Lola at the root? I want to understand her heart. And then I want to talk to her and help her and lift her up as if she was like my sister. I care about Lola. So fiercely that I would go to coffee with her for free and transform her business with her right there at the coffee. When I started changing my mindset to that place. When I started to recognize that service came before sales, that's when the money started to flow in ladies, it's the mindset shift. And podcasting taught me this because having a podcast doesn't allow you to just sell for 20 minutes every week, you have to teach something or no one's going to listen.
People are all about what's in it for me mindset. And so they're showing up with their hands wide open saying preach to me, teach to me, pour into me, change me, help me. If you don't feel their hands with solutions, they're going to walk away from you empty handed to never return. But if you feel their hands with gold and their hands are heavy and they can feel the gold in their hands and see the gold they're coming back to you week after week for more gold and more gold and more gold. And when you finally put enough gold in their pockets of free solution, they're then going to take all that gold and pay you for your services for your coaching, for your programs. And that's what happened for me. So it was just such a mindset transformation to realize that serving her came before selling to her. Okay. Number five, you guys are like this one I learned through podcasting. You don't have to use live video or you don't have to use video at all.
no video just saying no. So, okay. I still use video guys for my webinars and on Instagram stories, but I was not a fan to be brutally honest with you of just going live all the time. It's super distracting. Nobody got on anyway. Let's just be real. Maybe my best life had like 38 people, my best one ever of all time. Okay. Versus my best podcast of all time, my best episode in the first 30 days, over a thousand downloads, it's just a different thing. When you have an evergreen product that's living out there that people can go consume whenever they feel like it. There's no algorithm stuffing your podcast down. When someone's a subscriber, they're a subscriber. Your episode is there for them. Whenever they're ready to consume it. It's just such a different thing. If the live video is not doing well, Facebook can bury it.
So my whole thing was, why am I going live? It's distracting. I have young children. My hair is like always a mess. And I can't stop staring at my Wingdings in the video. And I feel like my eyebrows are uneven and I just can't handle it. But podcasting was so different because I could show up behind the mic, pour out my heart and soul, be my authentic self without looking at myself. I don't know about you, but I just thought it was super distracting. And my market is consuming audibly. You guys are probably in the car right now. Are you in the car, sister? How about you? Are you at the gym? Are you on the elliptical trainer? Are you running? Are you running outside? What are you doing while you listen to this show right now? So the point of that lesson is to teach you that you don't have to do what everyone else is doing.
Just because Mary says you have to go live to sell, or you must have a video presence. Doesn't mean Mary's right. Just because I say I choose podcasting. And I think that it's the new wave and it's growing by 30, 40% every single year. And I think that this is a great way for you to show up authentically and have this evergreen sales funnel where you can grow trust. Doesn't mean you have to do it. The point of this is you don't have to do what you don't want to do. I was tired of video. I didn't really want to do video, so I'm not doing it. And look, my business is still exploding because I found the Avenue that works for me. Kay. Number six, podcasting has taught me the value and power of networking and relationships. About six months into podcasting, I hired a podcast publicist or a podcast VA and her entire job was getting me on other podcasts.
Well, through this process, I met some incredible women that were just like me, podcasters, many of them, Christian entrepreneurs, or, you know, fierce mama bosses or amazing women in business. And because I was connecting with them through the show, we would connect on Instagram. And some of them became really great friends and mentors and all of those relationships, y'all it led to some crazy miracles. I'm talking free coaching, free masterminds, free publicity, swapping with each other in each other's groups and helping each other grow and the community aspect of having support. So this one was interesting because for so long, I felt like I could just do it all all by myself and I didn't need other people. And I was tired of the networking because I thought networking was like fake, you know, sucking up to this person to get what you want. And what I realized through this year of podcasting is that making true friends, just to be their friend, just to cheer for them, just to pray for them and their success and help them and answer questions for each other because you're going through something similar is so much more than networking.
It's accountability. It's true friendship. It's having people that are running the same races. You give you that energy boost when you need it, hand you that cup of water. When you're dying of thirst, like it's having those people there that can hold your hand and lift you. So if whatever it is that you're doing today, I challenge you to find other people that are in a similar space or you blogging find some other bloggers. Are you trying to get into the coaching role, connect with some coaches, you know, get together and do a peer led mastermind, start to pick each other's brains and starting accountability, text, whatever it means for you. But this, for me, it opened so many doors that I never even expected. I really looked at it as making new friends that were going to be inspiring for me. And then all of those new friends turned into blessings.
Amazing. Number seven, consistency is the secret sauce. Podcasting taught me what real consistency looked like before podcasting. I dabbled in blogs. I dabbled in YouTube. I dabbled in Facebook live. I showed up when I felt like it, there was never a reason for me to commit because I wasn't accountable to anyone. And I had my foot one foot in and one foot out. Right. I'm kind of doing this, but I'm also still looking on indeed for job searches, right? Like I'm kind of in, but I'm also starting an Amazon merch store to tell, sell t-shirts because I'm freaked out about how I'm going to make money. And the reality of it was I had to go all in with something to really make it, to really explode my brand and my business. And the podcast did it for me because I was able to launch the show October.
First of last year, I said, the Lord whispered this to me as you guys have heard. And I said, you know what, I'm doing this for a year, twice a week. And if it's too hard to do twice a week, I'll scale it back. But I will not change anything until I'm one year into this thing. If it's not working for me at that point, cool, I'll call it quits and it will be fun. And it will live out there forever as an evergreen funnel for me because podcasts don't come down. When you stop podcasting, they live on and market for you again forever, which is another huge benefit of having a show, which I love. I love anything that can grow for me without me working all the time. But having that consistency that promise to myself and to the show and to all of you, it changed something in me.
It created responsibility to my brand. And instead of looking at it as a passion project, quote, unquote, it became the vehicle for my message. It became where people came to hear my voice to be heard. It became where I hangout. It became the thing. Instead of all the things, half in half out, I needed one thing, one place to show up as me bare my soul, teach, train, inspire, transform storytell. And that place for me is podcasting. And it taught me that consistency is the secret sauce being consistent and showing up twice a week for all of you. That's what grew the community. Yes, my messaging and my voice also grew the, and what I have to say, but if I wasn't showing up every single week for you, you wouldn't be here. You'd be like, ah, she might show up. So whatever, check on the show, whenever you thought about it, which would be never because we have a million things on our plate.
But because you know, for a fact, Stefanie Gass is going to bring me new gold that I can't, I can put in my pockets every Monday and every Thursday, like you were in it with me. Right? And that secret sauce, that consistency piece brought in the followers, the broadened, the community, it brought up the engagement. It brought in the sales because people started to trust me and learn from me and liked me and resonate with me at the highest possible level. Okay. It also taught me that this is not a hobby. This is a business. And you show up for your business. If you want to grow your bank account, you show up. If you want to keep your job, you show up. You're not late. You're there every day doing your best work. And that's the way I had to treat this. And it was the first time I had ever treated being an entrepreneur as a true business.
And let me tell you the last one. Number eight, perfection is a lie. I showed up on this show, whether I was ready or not. Sometimes I sat at the mic and I didn't know what I was going to talk about. And I just asked Holy spirit to give me some guidance, give me some inspiration and open my mouth for me. Cause I just was staring at this computer dumbfounded. And guess what? He delivered every single time. There are episodes where there are mistakes. There are episodes where, you know, something is repeated twice where the editing is messed up. The sound is jacked up there's problems. It's not perfect, but it's just about doing the thing and growing through it and recognizing that people are showing up for you. Not for them. They're showing up for the content, not how you look, not how you sound, not how perfect your microphone is or how clear and crispy your sound is.
It's about what are you going to teach me? What's the goal that you're bringing to me today. Are you going to make me laugh? Are you going to make me feel good about myself? Like this is bigger than us. Your message. And your mission is bigger than you. And that was such a big lesson for me. This year was perfection is a lie. So there they are. Those are the eight huge lessons that I have learned through my podcast and through this journey over the last year. And I'm just so grateful for what this podcast has done and will continue to do. And I want to hear from you, you know, if you have been a listener with me for a while now, shoot me a DM, introduce yourself, say, what's up. Tell me what you love from the show. Do you want more live coaching over this next year?
Do you want more live webinars? We can do goal setting together. Do you like when I talk about mom life versus business, or do you want more business versus the mom stuff? Do you like how often I do guest interviews? Do you want more of that? Tell me all the things, because this is your podcast and I want to hear from you and the best place to leave me. That feedback is in a review. I would love it. If you head over to iTunes, that'll be the, the congratulations for our one-year anniversary gift. Okay? Go over to iTunes, leave me a review. And in that review, I want you to put who you are, what you do and how you want this podcast to look and feel for you this next year. Because I truly do care. I want this to be my vessel for you to grow transform.
And for me to educate you on being the very best Christian led, you know, faith led mompreneur that you possibly can be. And again, thank you guys. I couldn't be here without you. The podcast wouldn't be what it is without you. So I'm so grateful. And again, to remind you, we have a happy podcast anniversary sale going on right now. It starts right this second.
